The role will have responsibility to:
  • Ensure personal and team compliance with all company HSE requirements & policies including Fitness for Work.
  • Completes any HSE tasks only if he hazards and any potential consequences are understood, and any corrections are firstly agreed by the relevant supervisor.
  • Carries out general electrical reliability engineering tasks in support of the assigned plant area under the direction of the Senior Engineer - Electrical Reliability.
  • Conducts fully detailed reliability reviews of nominated problematic/critical equipment, including first - principles reviews of the equipment maintenance strategies.
  • Gathers knowledge on the plant circuits and problematic/ critical equipment through personal observation, discussion with site staff, review of technical literature, discussions with OEM staff etc.
  • During shutdowns and major repairs, attend jobs, gathers component information, assist with QA, conduct disassembly inspections including assessment of components for re - use and conduct own inspections to improve knowledge of internal componentry condition.
  • Validates daily equipment performance data with daily/weekly inspections of problematic & critical equipment while running ensuring that adequate failure analysis methods are followed.

Essential criteria
  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering or relevant qualification essential.
  • IEPNG Engineer Membership essential
  • 3 - 5 years relevant work experience essential in fixed plant maintenance and reliability engineering roles in heavy industry preferably mineral processing

Instrumentation
  • Implement and monitor energy sector environmental and sustainable policies and procedures instrumentation drawings, specifications, standards and equipment manuals
  • Solve problems in pressure measurement components and systems
  • Solve problems in density/level measurement components and systems
  • Solve problems in flow measurement components and systems
  • Solve problems in temperature measurement components and systems
  • Diagnose and rectify faults in digital controls systems
  • Find and rectify faults in process final control elements
  • Scope, Install instrumentation and control apparatus and associated equipment
  • Scope Install instrumentation and control cabling and tubing
  • Develop, enter and verify word and analogue control programs for programmable logic controllers

Power System
  • Required Competencies Reliability Electrical Engineer - Power Systems
  • Develop high voltage distribution and sub transmission switching programs
  • Maintain, test and commission power systems voltage regulating equipment
  • Coordinate high voltage distribution and sub transmission networks
  • Solve problems in energy supply network equipment
  • Solve problems in low voltage AC/DC circuits
  • Coordinate high voltage transmission network
  • Perform accuracy checks on power systems instrument transformers
  • Provide engineering solutions to problems in complex polyphase power circuits
  • Working safely near live electrical apparatus
  • Develop planned power systems outage strategies
  • Use drawings, diagrams, schedules, standards, codes, and specifications
  • Diagnose and rectify faults in electrical energy supply transmission systems
  • Repairs basic electronic apparatus faults by replacement of components
  • Commission power systems metering schemes
  • Draft and layout a power system distribution substation minor upgrade
  • Diagnose and rectify faults in distributed generation systems
  • Coordinate low voltage distribution networks
  • Solve problems in energy supply network protection equipment and systems
  • Provide engineering solutions for problems in complex multiple path circuits
  • Draft and layout a power system overhead distribution extension
  • Develop power systems secondary isolation instructional documents
  • Coordinate low voltage distribution network demand
  • Draft and layout a power system street lighting system
  • Prepare drawings using manual drafting and CAD equipment and software
  • Develop low voltage distribution switching programs
  • Respond to power systems technical enquiries and requests
  • Repair, test and calibrate protection relays and meters
  • Develop and evaluate power systems transmission switching programs
  • Establish and manage power system geographical information systems data
  • Maintain interdependent network protection and control systems
  • Develop high voltage and low voltage distribution protection systems
  • Design power system substations modifications
  • Solve problems in single and three phase low voltage machines
  • Draft and layout a power system underground distribution extension
  • Solve problems in electromagnetic devices and related circuits
  • Design power system distribution substations
  • Investigate quality of power systems supply issues
  • Prepare and manage detailed construction plans for electrical power system infrastructure
  • Develop structured programs to control external devices
  • Diagnose and rectify faults in energy supply apparatus

Desirable criteria
  • Completion on short courses on reliability engineering methodologies
  • Works in accordance with PNG Mine Safety Act, Newcrest System, Safety Policies and Procedures and Newcrest Environment policies and all departmental operating procedures.
  • Technical skills specific to minerals processing equipment and circuits.
  • Use of various company & departmental systems including SAP, Pi/Process Book etc.
  • Practical electrical aptitude and capabilities well suited to data processing, analysis, trouble - shooting, cause, and effect linkage etc.
  • Reliability engineering concepts and methodologies.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Self - motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously
  • Sound planning, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • PNG Driver's License - Class 6 essential
  • Previous experience in delivery and assessment of training desirable

The Requirements
  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
