Operations near and far

In the Great Sandy Desert in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia, our Telfer gold-copper mine is our fly-in-fly-out operation, comprising both open pits and an underground mine. While at site Telfer offers a diverse range of recreational activities including a gym, swimming pool, driving range, movie room and refurbished communal eatery.

Who we're looking for

Reporting into the Manager Underground Mining, the primary purpose of this position is to provide safe, efficient and cost-effective operational control of Telfer's underground operations in accordance with legal requirements and company objectives. You'll be providing leadership and operational direction to the operational and technical work teams, ensuring resources, capacity and capability are aligned to the mine plan and key objectives.

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
  • Safety leadership
  • Ensuring absolute compliance with the applicable mines regulations
  • Managing operational performance reporting and documentation
  • Driving continuous improvement, focused on value generation and cost reduction
  • Overseeing contractor performance and activities
  • Developing and empowering the team to continually improve operational systems and processes
  • Actively participating in site business planning and growth opportunities

To succeed in this role, you will be safety focused, self-motivated and have strong time management skills. You will have expert technical and operational capability combined with highly developed written and verbal communication skills.

Our ideal candidate will have a tertiary engineering qualification (Mining or similar) and have preferably been in a Superintendent level position previously. Underground hard rock experience will be highly advantageous. It is essential for this position that you have a WA first class mine manager's certificate of competency. Ideally you will also have;
  • Demonstrated experience managing underground contractors as well as all aspects of an underground mine
  • Exposure to contract management
  • The ability to think strategically and effectively collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Current C Class drivers' licence

We are looking for a strong communicator and influencer and someone who is familiar with working in a highly collaborative environment with a strong emphasis on innovation and best practise.

Please note: This is a permanent role that will work on a FIFO (8D/6), flying out of Perth.

Newcrest is also committed to building a diverse workforce. Our strategic focus is on diversity to reflect the communities in which we operate. Creating an inclusive culture will enable us to leverage the richness of cultures across our workforce and the capability of our diverse employees to get better business outcomes.

If you are seeking a new career challenge, where you can transfer your existing skills, into a positive and empowering team environment, we'd love to hear from you!

At this stage, we are not accepting any external agency CVs for the opportunity.
