The Brucejack Mine is an operating underground gold and silver mine and is considered one of the highest-grade operating gold mines in the world. It is located 65 kilometers north of the town of Stewart in northern British Columbia.

The Opportunity

We currently have an opportunity for a Surface Ops General Foreman to join the Brucejack Mine in northern British Columbia.

The Lower Camps General Foreman primary responsibility is to assist in planning daily access road operational activities, teams, and crews to ensure the Brucejack Mine site and surrounding areas are adequately maintained to provide year-round operations. This position also takes a lead role supporting construction/contractors while assisting the Shipper/Receivers with logistical coordination of materials, equipment, and supplies at Brucejack in a safe and effective manner.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
  • Oversees road maintenance activities on 74km of roadway.
    • Includes glacier road maintenance (11km).
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of workers and contractors engaged in operating equipment to move personnel, machinery, and supplies in and around the mine site.
  • Consults and collaborates with relevant personnel to establish daily work schedule.
  • Provides general direction to surface operations personnel to ensure all site is well maintained for safe year-round operation.
  • Collaborates, coordinates, priories tasks that are needed to be done.
  • Completes accurate daily, weekly, and monthly activity reports as required.
  • Attends meetings with various parties on/off site as needed.
  • Maintains a daily activity log to communicate work in progress for cross-shift.
  • Works closely with contractors to provide support as needed.
  • Conducts daily toolbox meetings along with bi-weekly safety presentation.
  • Provides guidance to employees on work related matters to ensure tasks are clearly understood.
  • Addresses employee issues through consultation with Surface Operations Superintendent and Human Resources Department.
  • Develop a positive team environment.
  • Present a positive approach to safety as a leader in field.
  • Work with others in group on project budgeting and procurement activities (materials or equipment purchases / rentals).
  • Develops and generates Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA's) where required.
  • Promote a professional team with respect to other departments.
  • Respect and enforce all Newcrest rules and policies.

About You

Position requirements include, but are not limited to:

Five years of similar level supervisory experience in road maintenance, building, or industrial construction / operations settings. Experience working with and directing heavy equipment is necessary. Ability to read and direct from engineered drawings. Experience working in remote settings / camps is a great asset.
  • Computer software skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong demonstrated supervisory, communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Time management and decision-making skills
  • Strong demonstrated knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures
  • TDG - transportation of dangerous goods
  • Valid driver license, minimum class 5
  • Level 1 First Aid ticket an asset
