The Role

We are now seeking for an experienced Senior Engineer - Processing. Reporting to the Superintendent - Power & Utilities Reliability, the successful candidate will have to develop and implement methods to monitor, benchmark and improve the plants performance to ensure the operations are running as efficiently as possible to minimize costs and improve production whilst ensuring the plant operates safely.

The role will have responsibility to:
  • Take responsibility for personal and team safety through demonstrating safety behaviors and leadership.
  • Set and maintain plant operating limits and response plans (TARP's). Review trends daily to ensure these limits are clearly understood and complied with by operations. Highlight non-compliance to the team daily.
  • Develop and implement key performance indicator monitoring of all sections of plant and inventory management.
  • Liaise with shipping and logistics to maintain inventory within agreed operating limits.
  • Use Financial Modelling and process improvement tools to continuously optimise plant performance. Demonstrate YOY efficiency plant performance improvement.
  • Assist operations by providing technical support, troubleshooting and RCA for process issues.
  • Review all process related changes in the plant by the formal Management of Change process and ensure NORM Risk Assessments, and where applicable, HAZOP are maintained current.
  • Manage and implement process control related safety improvement actions.
  • Mentor and train operational personnel to continuously improve their knowledge and understanding of processes and systems within power and utilities.
  • Provide process and alarm reporting for the Power and Utilities Department.
  • Ensure plants are run to the correct DCS control and operational modes/strategies.
  • Champion the alarm reduction program and demonstrate continuous improvement. Identify issues and liaise with Operations and maintenance to develop effective and sustainable solutions.
  • Manage and implement approved engineering projects and assist other members of the Power and Utilities team with their evaluation and implementation of projects as authorised by the Superintendent - Engineering and System or Manager P&U.

Essential criteria
  • A Bachelor/Master of Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical with mining and downstream processing experiences.
  • 3 - 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Good knowledge of process safety and Management of Change
  • Experience with water tube boilers
  • Experience in power generation - HFO engines and geothermal
  • Water treatment - multimedia filtration and demineralizer
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with MS Office software
  • Operation/plant experience is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality and continuous learning.
  • Mass and Heat balance

Desirable criteria
  • PNG Driver's License
  • Certificate in Workplace Assessment and Training or similar
  • Fuel accounting and monthly reporting -
  • Conducting risk assessments, HAZOPs

The Requirements
  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
