Located in the Great Sandy Desert in East Pilbara, Western Australia, Telfer is a fly in out fly out operation from Perth which recognizes the importance of work-life balance. Our comfortable, well furnished rooms include Foxtel, and our site offers quality food with healthy options, medical care, sports and recreation activities. Families are welcomed several times a year to open days to support our community feel at Telfer.

Who we're looking for:

Reporting to the Superintendent - Metallurgy, a permanent opportunity has arisen for a driven Senior Plant Metallurgist to lead and support a team of high performing Plant Metallurgists, Metallurgical Technicians and graduates to improve the metallurgical and operational performance of the concentrator and provide technical support to the operations teams. A function performed all whilst maintaining a safety behaviour and cost commitment consistent with the Newcrest values. Focus on short to medium term technical issues to ensure maximum and sustainable profitability of the business.

A few key responsibilities will include;
  • Supporting the Safety Management System, ensuring a safety-first work culture; applying site safety standards, procedures and policies
  • Supporting and investigating when work is stopped due to an unsafe act or condition, ensuring actions to mitigate the risk are implemented
  • Setting priorities and allocating work to competent personnel
  • Collaborating with stakeholders and setup work for execution
  • Openly support Company policy regardless of personal views
  • Ensuring all team members understand their tasks and their importance
  • Contributing to budgets, schedules and plans
  • Delivering on objectives outlined in workplans aligned to the site business planning and PoaP

You will be safety focused, team oriented, enable and drive continuous improvement and be willing to strive for results. Relationship building, drive and strategic thinking are second nature to you. Its essential that you have demonstrated leadership and people management of a team in a technical context.

You'll have a relevant degree qualification in in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering. Ideally you will also have the following;
  • Extensive exposure to base metal or gold mineral processing operations
  • Experience with metallurgical accounting systems in complex processing applications
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement experience and effective delivery of continuous improvement projects
  • Exposure to SAG milling, gravity concentration and flotation unit processes within the gold / base metal industry

We are looking for a strong communicator and influencer and someone who is familiar with working in a highly collaborative environment with a strong emphasis on innovation and best practise. Someone who is able to ensure absolute compliance with legal requirements and company objectives, whilst also providing support to develop, coach and mentor team members to continuously improve their knowledge, skills and relationship interactions.

Please note: This is a permanent role, FIFO from Perth Telfer on an 8 days on/6 off roster (Friday to Friday).
