Our Metallurgy team based in our Ore Treatment department, onsite at Telfer are seeking a safety focused and reliable Metallurgist to monitor and improve the metallurgical performance of the ore processing plant at Telfer, whilst acting in line with Newcrest values and safety standards.

In the Great Sandy Desert in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia, our Telfer gold-copper mine is our fly-in-fly-out operation, comprising both open pits and an underground mine. While at site Telfer offers a diverse range of recreational activities including a gym, swimming pool, driving range, movie room and refurbished communal eatery

The Role

We are seeking a Plant Metallurgist to provide technical support to the operations, maintenance and engineering teams in order to maximise recovery, reduce treatment costs and improve safety.

You will report directly into the Senior Metallurgist and will regularly review plant performance investigate, report on variation and ensure production targets are met.

Other key deliverables include:
  • Monitoring process control loops, equipment performance data and plant data to initiate corrective actions where required in line with Newcrest Metallurgical Standard.
  • Develop and perform metallurgical test works programmes to diagnose process issues and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Provide metallurgical data management and complete metallurgical accounting reporting.
  • Provide technical support and mentoring to the process operators, metallurgical technicians and to the broader processing department.
  • Liaise with Mining and Geology departments as required to ensure crusher feeds delivered aligns with forecast production schedules. Prepare and deliver effective handovers to, and work cohesively with, production and team staff.
  • Perform Radiation Safety Officer/Deputy Radiation Safety Officer duties if required.
  • Provide coverage for the Senior Metallurgist during extended absences if required.
  • Demonstrate safety leadership and contribute to plant safety continuous improvement programs.

You will also ideally have:
  • Tertiary qualification in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or Mineral Processing
  • Previous experience in a similar role within a mineral processing environment; gold processing experience will be viewed favourably
  • Exposure to grinding, flotation circuits and CIL
  • Analytical skills, good attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • C Class Drivers Licence
