Northern Star Resources Limited (ASX: NST) is a global-scale Australian gold producer with Tier-1 world-class projects located in highly prospective and low sovereign risk regions of Australia and North America. Northern Star's gold mines are all world-class, low-cost, high-grade gold mines, which together have produced over 20 million ounces to date. This large inventory means a further 10 years of mine life visibility ensuring Northern Star has a long future based on its Tier-1 operations of Kalgoorlie, Jundee and Pogo. Since acquiring these operations, Northern Star has been able to significantly extend the mine life and grow the resource base of all of our mines by investing heavily in near-mine and in-mine exploration.

We currently have an opportunity for a Full Time Buyer at our Pogo Fairbanks Office working a schedule of Tuesday - Friday, 10 hours per day. Candidates must be currently living in the Fairbanks North Star Borough.

THE ROLE:

The Buyer reports to the Controller and the primary role is to

  • Identify suitable suppliers/vendors
  • Ensure goods and services are ordered and received in a timely manner
  • Ensure purchases are made that are suitable and cost appropriate that are in line with NSR Requirements


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Negotiate purchasing arrangements for goods and / or services with Suppliers/vendors
  • Review purchasing policies / procedures and make recommendations
  • Understand and coordinate inventory or direct procurement to maintain routine and priority warehouse stock levels. Able to cover all Pogo purchase types as assigned.
  • Prepare and issue purchase orders in Pronto using the Order Generator. Review purchase orders for commodity, line-item count, shipping mode, and urgency of need.
  • Provide price changes, part number changes, and descriptive date updates to Inventory Control as changes occur for Item Master updates.
  • Provide direction to vendors regarding shipping, change orders, cancellations, and routine purchasing communications.
  • Maintain purchasing files for audit and problem resolution. Provide vendor analysis and feedback to Purchasing for improving Pogo Mine support. Provide cross coverage in Purchasing as needed.
  • Review and track Pronto purchase orders for initial promise dates. Identify mission critical orders and provide status updates to Management. Accomplish regular backorder follow-up on routine and priority orders.
  • Maintain vendor communications to ensure shipments maintain or improve delivery schedules. Take action when required to improve or divert freight to meet site operational needs.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of intra, interstate, and international logistics lanes to Alaska and carrier capabilities.
  • Update Pronto order status with changes as necessary.
  • Provide vendor and carrier analysis to Purchasing for improving Pogo Mine support through bulk procurement and freight consolidation.
  • Expediting in town and to the mine as needed, will pickup mine supplies from local suppliers and consolidate them for transportation to the mine site.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent

CERTIFICATES & LICENCES:

Valid Driver's license with a clean driving record for the past five years is required.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of two years experience in Purchasing, Material Control, or related field for industrial operations.

Advanced ERP System user (preferably Pronto) preferred

Knowledge of all aspects of purchasing and inventory

SKILLS:

Capable of organized legible and effective date entry.

Should have critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills. Strong planning and organizational skills.

Effective written, verbal, and communication skills to satisfy training, safety, and electronic message transmission policies of the company.

Demonstrated computer skills in Windows environment with experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

WORK SCHEDULE & ENVIRONMENT

Working a 5 day on, 2 day off schedule, up to 8 hours a day or more at a our Fairbanks Office Location. Position will be a maximum term of six months with potential to become a full time position. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.
