Since acquiring these operations, Northern Star has been able to significantly extend the mine life and grow the resource base of all of our mines by investing heavily in near-mine and in-mine exploration.

We currently have an exciting opportunity at our Pogo operation for an Assay Technician working 14 day on / 14 day off work schedule

As a team member the Assay Tech safely and efficiently prepares all samples for further analyses performed by higher level Assayers in the Process Laboratory. The Process Lab provides analytical support to the Process, Mining, and Environmental departments onsite. Sample preparation is an integral component of analytical processes that ensures accurate reliable results for clients. Primary equipment used to succeed in the role includes drying ovens, splitters, crushers, vibratory mills, balances, and wafer presses. Proper sample representation and integrity is achieved by utilizing equipment and imputing data into a Laboratory Information System (LIMS).


  • Adhere to all safety and environmental requirements of the mine site and Process team.
  • Use appropriate sample preparation equipment to provide samples that represent client's submitted material per safe work procedures.
  • Perform maintenance tasks on equipment and maintain equipment within the scope of training and abilities.
  • Meet or exceed expectations for housekeeping and organization of the work area.
  • Responsible for inputting data into LIMS.
  • Prepare sample envelopes and maintain sample integrity and traceability.
  • Create wafers and operate XRF instrument per safe work procedures.
  • Document production data and inspection evidence used in daily and monthly reports
  • Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Train as time permits in fire assay under direct supervision.
  • Possession of a valid US driver's license is required.
  • Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
  • Must pass a post offer physical and drug test, as well as a background check.


Pickup, forklift, jaw crusher, vibratory mills, drying ovens, balances, computer, hand tools, precision scales and instruments, AA, XRE, Leco, pressure filters, vacuum filters, shovel, tongs, loading forks, cleaning tools, lab carts, hot plates, water baths, ultrasonic cleaners, fume hoods, and dust collector.


Working a 14 day on, 14 day off rotating schedule of days and nights, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, internet & cable tv programs. Cell service is available when using Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
