About the role

We are looking for a Senior Manager Finance & Accounting Services whose main accountability will be to lead a team of high performing accounting professionals who are responsible for the accurate preparation of financial statements and analysis in accordance with IFRS and Rio Tinto policies.

This position is an excellent opportunity to join the Finance and Accounting Services (FAS), Southern Hemisphere team based in Perth. This dynamic team is responsible for delivering optimal controllership support to Product Groups and/or Business Units. Working in a collaborative environment with the Closing and Reporting teams and finance business partners (FBP), the team is responsible for coordinating and ensuring a high quality of all accounting, financial reporting, technical support and compliance activities. Working on a 5 days on, 2 days off roster, you will report to the GM FAS Southern Hemisphere and have the following duties:
  • Lead a team of accounting professionals including performance and talent management and career development of team members;
  • Ensure compliance with adequate internal controls, SOX standard and Rio Tinto's accounting policies;
  • Provide analysis of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial results used for external and internal management reporting;
  • Serve as a member of the FAS Southern Hemisphere Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to ensure collaboration and priority alignment across FAS
  • Responsible for fostering a culture that drives safety, continuous improvement, engagement and business excellence
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the Rio Tinto Aluminium CFO, the Finance Business Partner team, Tax and other Business Process Owners;
  • Lead implementation of continuous improvement through process standardisation and simplification
  • Engage with internal & external auditors;

  • Solve complex problems and recommend solutions.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance;
  • CPA or CA qualification;
  • Minimum 10 years of accounting experience;
  • Experience leading and developing large teams;
  • Experience in the mining, aluminium or related industry and an understanding of key accounting standards applicable to the industry;
  • Knowledge of SAP and advanced Excel skills;
  • Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) skills would be an asset;
  • Experience working in a matrix organization or ability to demonstrate high levels of collaboration with colleagues across all levels of the organisation;
  • Experience with JV Accounting (desirable)
  • Demonstrated curiosity and drive for thinking differently

Finance & Accounting Services (FAS) is part of Group Services, which provides essential services and support to our Rio Tinto assets in the areas of finance, purchase to pay (P2P) and Human Resources (HR). FAS brings value to the Group by leveraging our expertise, new technologies, systems and tools, from Group and management reporting through to transactional services.

Our services include, but are not limited to, banking & treasury, cash application, commodities back office, indirect taxes, intercompany processes, reconciliations, ledger closure, Group reporting and Management reporting, local advice on technical accounting matters, consolidation and statutory reporting.
