We are hiring an X-Ray Instrumentation Technician who will be responsible for our Diamond X-Ray sorters, the work includes performing routine testing and maintenance of the equipment in the Recovery Plant. This includes understanding the process flow, documenting changes, and making continuous improvement recommendations based on best practices.

Reporting to the Superintendent, Process Technology located at the Lac de Gras Mine site, you will be working on a 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off rotation in the interim with the potential that this change to a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation in the future, once the COVID-19 pandemic normalizes.

Working collaboratively with all operational and functional departments, you will be responsible for:
  • Performing planned maintenance on equipment by the scheduled due dates in a cost-effective, safe and environmentally friendly manner in order to maximize equipment availability;
  • Safely troubleshooting and resolving equipment problems and conducting breakdown repairs within planned time frames without compromising the integrity of the equipment;
  • Entering reports on maintenance, repairs and diagnoses into the preventative and predictive maintenance database prior to the end of each shift, providing sufficient detail for others to understand the work that has been completed on the equipment;
  • Assisting in the efficient commissioning of new installations and modifications, ensuring the equipment has been fully tested prior to operational implementation;
  • Keeping work areas clean and free of safety hazards on a continuous basis conduct safety audits as per company policy;
  • Providing written reports to Supervisor as requested.
  • Training the process plant instrumentation technicians to become competent at maintaining and trouble shooting the recovery X-ray units;
  • Maintaining X-ray preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and operation SOP's;
  • Developing and implementing continuous improvement plan to further improve sorters diamond recovery efficiency.

About you

To be considered for this role, ideally you will have:
  • Strong safety acumen;
  • Interprovincial Journeyperson certification as an Instrumentation technician;
  • 5 years' experience working with Recovery X-Ray units in a large-scale mining operation;
  • In-depth knowledge of the installation, operation and maintenance of instrumentation systems and equipment, with special attention paid to Diamond Recovery X-ray units;
  • Advanced understanding of instrumentation systems for mining industry;
  • Excellent knowledge and troubleshooting skills in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code and Mines Act;
  • Current St. John's Ambulance Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR is an asset;
  • Excellent oral, written and active-listening skills;
  • Highly effective organizational, time management and analytical skills;
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and as part of a team.
