About the role

We are looking for a Heavy-Duty Mechanic (Red Seal) to work in our Mobile Maintenance department as part of a robust and safety-oriented team. The Heavy-Duty Mechanic is responsible for repairing mobile equipment in a safe, environmentally friendly, and efficient manner to ensure optimal equipment availability for the smelting operation.

**Scheduling is based on operational needs and can vary based on the temporary assignments, but typically can include 12 hour shifts, nights, and weekends.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will be:
  • Working safely in accordance with Rio Tinto safety standards actively engaging in safety initiatives promoting our "Zero harm" safety culture;
  • Contribute to safety and efficiency by constructively participating in safety meetings and incident investigations;
  • Keep work areas clean and free of safety hazards on a continuous basis. Adhere to safety and environmental rules. Conduct safety audits as per Rio Tinto procedures;
  • Perform heavy equipment repairs within planned time frames and without compromising the integrity of the equipment;
  • Provide sufficient detail about repairs so that others can understand what work has been done on the equipment;
  • Prepare written and electronic reports for leaders as requested;
  • Conduct equipment reviews to ensure new and existing equipment meet site safety standards and operational requirements;
  • Help develop Heavy-Duty Mechanic apprentices including delegating tasks or projects that will assist with their skill development and meet apprenticeship requirements

What you'll bring
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team;
  • Interprovincial Red Seal Heavy-Duty Mechanic (HDET) trade qualification;
  • High school graduation or equivalent;
  • A minimum of a Class 7 valid provincial driver's license;
  • Prior experience with troubleshooting and diagnostics on Linde, Mecfor, Caterpillar, and/or Techmo equipment is desirable;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate in English (oral and written);
