Rio Tinto Copper is looking for a committed and enthusiastic geoscientist wishing to become a valued member of our team and to build a career in Rio Tinto.

Our team is tasked with the resource definition of our Winu project in the Great Sandy Desert of Western Australia. The program is well funded and multi-disciplinary, designed to increase knowledge of the Winu orebody as well as continue near mine exploration.

The role on offer is for a Specialist Structural Geoscientist and we welcome applications from qualified geologists with relevant experience in the field. The role is Perth-based with regular field visits to the Winu operation. It is intended the successful candidate will start in April 2021.

What you'll bring
  • Be a degree qualified geologist
  • Able to substantiate how you have developed your structural skills following university and be passionate about achieving technical excellence
  • Have at least a few years relevant industry experience in the delineation of structurally-controlled orebodies, including significant field time; recent experience in mining operations will be a strength
  • Able to demonstrate strong teamwork skills and an ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with work groups
  • The ability to work independently in a fast-paced and agile environment
  • A positive safety culture

Where you'll be working

Winu is a 100% Rio Tinto owned copper-gold mineralisation project in the Yeneena Basin of the Paterson Province in Western Australia. The project is located approximately 130 km north of the Telfer mine and 350 km southeast of Port Hedland. Teams at Winu are taking an agile approach to greenfield project development and being innovative in the way we bring a mine from exploration to production.

The role will be based in Perth, with regular field visits to the Winu operation.
