RNM Workshop, Maintenance Technician - Mechanical
About the role
We are looking for Rail Workshop mechanical maintainers to provide specialised trade expertise within the Rail Maintenance team. The role will be conducting routine inspections, servicing, commissioning and breakdown support for our track maintenance machinery fleet.
This role is a great opportunity to work closely with specialists to ensure the maintenance strategy and requirements are delivered safely. Working 8 days on, 6 off roster and reporting through to the Rail Maintenance Workshop Supervisor, your duties will include:

Our privately owned and operated rail network is an essential part of our integrated production process and services our 15 mines across the Pilbara via 1,700km of track. With depots located at Tom Price, Cape Lambert and Dampier. Each train is operated autonomously from our operations centre in Perth. Our trains comprise of up to three locomotives and 240 ore cars stretching to approximately 2.7 kilometres in length with over 40 trains operating per day. We are also applying and adapting technology to improve safety and productivity across our rail network

- Diagnose and correct maintenance issues in complex mechanical process control systems, to avoid or minimise, any impact on reliability.
- Provide breakdown support for up-track maintenance rail teams.
- Undertake inspection, fault finding and root cause analysis of breakdowns on our track maintenance machinery
- Apply principles of root causes of failure and make recommendations to ensure that the probability of repeat failures is minimised
- Assist your leader with the training of new and existing employees, contractors and apprentices
- Take a lead role in ensuring a safe working environment through deployment of Critical Risk Management and other Rio Tinto safety programs
- Provide technical mechanical expertise to drive continuous improvement of systems, equipment and processes
- Assist in the development and continual review of Operating and Maintenance Job standards
- Liaise with relevant OEM's to ensure best practice maintenance
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- Strong safety culture
- Self-motivated for continues improvement
- Ability to work in a team environment and autonomously in varying location
- Sound knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and other relevant computer programs
- Strong troubleshooting mechanical systems for all disciplines of rail maintenance machines, including Tampers & Regulators and/or Mobile Flash Butt welder
- strong interpreting service and operation manuals
- Experience in utilising safety systems
- Mining Industry experience
- SAP experience
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Current High Risk Work License ( WP, LF, DG, VLC, RB, C2)
- Experience in technical fault finding with reference to mechanical and Hydraulics systems for all disciplines of rail maintenance machines, including Tamper & Regulator Machines, Mobile Flashbutt Welders, and Mobile Plant.
- Perform the calibration of all on board Hydraulic Systems for all Rail Maintenance machines, including Tamper & Regulator Machines, Mobile Flashbutt Welders, and Mobile Plant equipment.
- Undertake repairs and fault diagnosis of all on board mechanical and Hydraulics systems for all disciplines of rail maintenance machines, including Tamper & Regulator Machines, Mobile Flashbutt Welders, and Mobile Plant.
- SAP computer system training
- Exposure to post trade Hydraulics experience
- Exposure to Plasser track machines
- Demonstrated post trade Pneumatics experience
- Ability to read system schematics for hydraulic / pneumatics
- Ability to read system schematics for electrical
- Significant experience on MFBW machines
- M3 safe working qualification
- Previous leadership experience is desired to build a career with our rail team as a leader
