Working closely with the Productivity and Business Improvement leaders at each of our operations to drive performance, the General Manager Productivity directly supports the Chief Financial Officer, Minerals with the governance and reporting of cash generation and productivity initiatives across the Minerals product group.

Productivity is an initiative-based program designed to drive improvements in cash, cost and productivity across the Minerals product group. The programme has successfully delivered value-driven improvements at the site level. It is a key platform for the success of Rio Tinto Minerals and our ability to deliver on our financial targets. The program identifies, establishes and tracks activities that improve free cash flow across all our operations. These projects include operations productivity improvements, procurement and financial initiatives, and marketing opportunities, including a strong focus on operational and capital cost improvement.

This is a great opportunity to strategically manage the productivity program at the product group level, providing guidance to our operations and facilitating long-term sustainable value for the Minerals Product Group.

About your role

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer - Minerals, and working in a challenging and exciting environment, you will:
  • Set clear and ambitious targets for the product group and each operation, tracking them and regularly reporting progress.
  • Strategically direct discipline governance and quality assurance across productivity improvement initiatives supporting operations to identify and establish a pipeline of cash improvement projects.
  • Drive sharing of best practice opportunities across the product group and other parts of Rio Tinto and work closely with the central Productivity team.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Business Partners of each site to ensure that projects are appropriately valued and tracked using a transparent, consistent and structured stage-gate process.
  • Ensure that any risk and reward trade-offs are elevated to the right level of the business.
  • Establish clear and timely reporting to drive fast change.
  • Lead and develop a team of strategy and technical experts ensuring ethical behaviours, respect, and an interdependent safety culture.
  • Build, nurture and maintain strong relationships with the key range of stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration and improvement.

To be successful you will have:
  • Degree qualifications in either a financial or technical discipline.
  • A solid understanding of mining and processing production environments.
  • A strong understanding of financial principles, metrics and value drivers and an ability to challenge standard processes.
  • An ability to influence at all levels of the business, including in the operations and across the Minerals leadership team, with a demonstrated ability to develop and manage key relationships with stakeholders, including operational teams.
  • An ability to work independently to drive outcomes and influence.
  • Experience in transformation, business improvement or productivity related projects within industry or management consulting organizations.
