About the role

The HSE Coordinator, based in Salt Lake City, provides technical advice to enable project teams to effectively implement Health, Safety, Environment, and Communities (HSE) procedures and mitigate HSE risks.

The Coordinator will also :

· Assist in implementing annual HSE plans and priorities for a Region or District with a specific focus on translating plans and priorities into HSE activities at a project level.

· Work with project managers and project teams to implement risk management processes. carry out inspections of site and materials and equipment to ensure safe operations.

· Produce statistics and reports from the HSE systems to report on and monitor HSE results across projects.

· Report HSE incidents and take immediate action to secure a workplace as safe as necessary following an incident or near miss. Conduct investigations for minor incidents.

· Establish the facts, identify causes, make findings and recommend actions.

· Ensure HSE induction processes are applied on site and records are kept. Report on case management activities, outcomes and issues at a project level.

· Ensure contractor practices at a project level comply with Rio Tinto and statutory HSE standards and requirements.

· Provide advice and workplace/on-site collaboration to assist contractors to comply with HSE standards and requirements.

· Develop local workforce capability in HSE practices, systems and requirements.

· Provide leadership in improving HSE culture and performance at the project level, by continuously improving operational work practices, and by modelling right-behaviours to achieve an interdependent safety culture.

· Work with other HSE practitioners to continuously improvement HSE plans, activities and processes, and ensure alignment with wider HSE directions and initiatives.

· Collaborate with other regional disciplines (eg. communication and external relations, other business units and product groups) to ensure HSE is aligned with and contributes to business strategy and priorities.

The work schedule is Monday Friday, 40 hours per week, 9:00 am 5:00 pm.

What you'll bring

· Associate's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental sciences, or related field and Five (5) years of related experience in advising on health and safety practices.

· Must have five (5) years of experience in each of the following:

· Identifying HSE implications, requirements and responses across a geographic area or within complex multi-project environments;

· Monitoring HSE compliance of contractors operating mineral exploration equipment;

· Advising on emergency preparedness and response in remote environments;

· Preparing injury/illness trends analysis, conducting regulatory HSE reporting requirements in multiple regulatory jurisdictions, and facilitating formal incident investigations;

· Designing corrective and preventive control plans for application in remote locations in consideration of small support team resources and limited supply chains;

· Developing and implementing project plans and priorities and aligning the delivery of HSE systems, processes, services and technical support to meet project needs;

· Project planning and delivery activities;

· Delivering and adapting HSE training and educational materials to a varying range of staff from senior leaders to contract labor staff;

· Developing specific training and competency evaluation for HSE processes including risk and hazard identification, emergency response planning, and coordination of scenario drills that meet regulatory and industry requirements; and,

· Providing technical leadership in HSE at a project level and developing the skills of employees involved in HSE delivery.

Willingness to travel 50% of the time.
