About the role

We are looking for a Manager Strategy & Planning (TiO2, Zircon & Rutile) to lead our commercial strategy development for the titanium, zircon and rutile product suite, including portfolio reviews and the delivery of product, end-use, pricing, contractual and other commercial strategy initiatives and growth opportunities and projects. In collaboration with the Commercial team and RTIT Leadership, the Manager Strategy & Planning brings strategy to life through tactical execution and management of business performance.

Based in Chicago, and reporting to the General Manager Strategic Marketing, you will be:
  • Accountable for preparing and implementing the annual titanium, zircon and rutile commercial strategy and plan, including 5-year forecast, product portfolio reviews, end-use, pricing, contractual and other commercial strategy initiatives and growth opportunities and projects. As part of the annual plan, agree and track KPIs and M2M value initiatives.
  • Accountable for the performance management and development plans of the marketing team (likely a principal adviser and analyst), including input for Regional Support roles.
  • Provides commercial context for operational and supply chain initiatives.
  • Works with commercial and market communications teams on product brands, packaging and priorities and external market messaging (including a formal review process).
  • Provides commercial guidance and sales toolkits to the global titanium, zircon and rutile sales team and the efficient handling of the mandate and contract approvals processes as well as pricing mechanisms, pricing decisions and commercial contributions to the SIOP process and any subsequent segmentation and prioritization needs that may arise.
  • Ensure the relevant systems are in place to accurately capture and transfer data and knowledge within marketing and to sales.
  • Accountable for the titanium, zircon and rutile marketing relationship with MA, including identifying and communicating RTIT's analysis needs and deliverables on behalf of both sales and marketing.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills the ability to speak and relate with junior analysts and Executive leadership, and write formal strategy documents
  • Proven analytical and project management skills, to lead strategy initiatives from start to finish
  • Experience driving revenue growth via price and margin growth analysis
  • Experience bringing value to customers through non-financial means
  • A confident but humble demeanour, focused on fostering relationships and building influence through credibility and successful delivery against the commercial strategy
  • Ability to effectively navigate ambiguity and change context to develop workable and sustainable solutions
  • Proven abilities to successfully operate in a matrix organisation, with strong stakeholder engagement and business partnering skills being key requisites
  • Leadership competencies in collaboration, listening, ability to receive and provide feedback in a positive manner and embodiment of Rio Tinto's values will be required
  • 10+ years' experience in direct and/or indirect commercial roles; or a combination of operational, technical, and operational roles
  • Bachelor's Degree required.

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • MBA and/or consulting experience an advantage
  • Experience working in TiO2 or Zircon
