We are looking for Process Coordinator, to lead the Reduction process technical team at our modernized aluminium smelter, in Kitimat, BC. If you are a motivated, self-driven person with experience in metals and materials processing this could be a role for you!

Reporting to the Process Superintendent and working a Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:
  • Working safely in accordance with Rio Tinto health, environmental, safety and community (HSEC) standards actively leading, and engaging in promoting our "Zero harm" culture;
  • Responsible for process safety in the reduction department ensuring the prevention of molten metal/bath explosions
  • Responsible for efficiency and performance parameters of the GTC ensuring HF and particulate permit compliance
  • Lead a team of process engineers and technicians in the Reduction and gas treatment centre (GTC) area.
  • Responsible for developing the 5-10 year plan for the Reduction operation
  • Collaborating with operational leaders to ensure targets are met by coordinating technical assistance efforts.
  • Share best technical practices with other relevant areas within RTA
  • Lead conceptual studies for strategic projects and communicates recommendations and actions to leadership
  • Identify development and training opportunities for your direct reports, and provides guidance to the area manager on technical/process for the wider Reduction team.

What you'll bring
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team;
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemical, Metallurgical or equivalent
  • 5-10 years of experience with the aluminium reduction process
  • Extensive experience with AP Reduction Technology as well as ALPSYS control system
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated aptitude for problem solving and data analysis
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Good understanding of the business improvement process

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Intermediate level of French
  • Knowledge of SAP
  • Previous certification as Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
