We are looking for a Safety Advisor to support the closure activities associated with the Argyle Diamond mine. You will work closely with the site team by implementing and coordinating programmes and ensuring all safety requirements are met.

Argyle diamond mine, which sits on the traditional country of the Miriuwung, Gidja, Malgnin and Wularr people in Western Australia, is one of the world's largest producers of diamonds and the largest supplier of natural coloured diamonds including white, champagne, cognac, blue, violet and the rare and the highly-coveted Argyle pink and red diamonds. Argyle has produced more than 825 million carats of rough diamonds since it began production in 1983 and ceased production in November 2020.

Reporting to the HSE Superintendent this role is responsible for, but not limited to:
- Implementation of all aspects of safety procedures, management and monitoring plans
- Communicates regularly with key stakeholders including site management, supervisors, contract partners and other Rio Tinto employees regarding safety targets, plans and performance improvement
- Manages compliance with Rio Tinto Health and Safety policies and Standards, the relevant regional statutes and Health and Safety Management Systems
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with project personnel and contractors to ensure smooth implementation of site work and efficient reporting
- Administration and implementation of Critical Risk Management
- Participate in Leadership in the Field activities including safety interactions and coaching
- Develop and refine safety procedures and work instructions
- Provide advice and guidance to site contractors and employees to ensure they comply with safety standards, procedures and relevant legislation
- Manage, collate and provide safety data, non-compliance information or other issues for regulatory notifications and to meet annual reporting requirements
What you'll bring
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate the following:
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skillsExperience in managing contractors to deliver large work programs
- Experience working in an operational health and safety role, coupled with a passion for, and sound knowledge of health and safety
- Demonstrated "project" experience in the resource industry highly regarded
- Qualified in health & safety relevant and/or commensurate experience in a similar role
- Strong engaging and influencing skills, with the ability to coach leaders and to think strategically
- An ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing competing priorities supporting multiple stakeholder groups with strong problem solving skills
- Experience using HSE Management Systems and BI Reporting tools highly advantageous
- Adaptability and flexibility with a solutions based mind-set
- Ability to work autonomously with reliability and accuracy
