About the role

We are currently accepting applications for Underground team (assignment may be permanent or fixed term) to be responsible for the operation and monitoring of the equipment within their designated area, by ensuring that safety is maintained and that production objectives are met. Available positions are:
  • Janitor, Dispatch, Trainee
  • Haul Truck Operator
  • Blaster, Maintainer
  • Driller, Lead Blaster
  • Lead Hand, Lead Miner

Located at the Diavik Diamond Mine, you will be working on a 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off rotation in the interim (alternating night shift and day shift) rotational schedule on a 12 hours per shift day, with the potential that this changes to a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation in the future once the COVID-19 pandemic normalizes.

Working collaboratively with all operational and functional departments, you will be responsible for:
  • Identifying and responding to workplace hazards;
  • Ensuring your underground tasks are completed according to set schedules.
  • Operating underground mobile equipment and heavy equipment such as haul truck, scoop trams (manual & teleremote), Integrated Tool carrier (IT Loader), Simba longhole drill, Cubex ITH drill, emulsion loader, and/or grader;
  • Recognizing and scaling loose and/or abnormal ground conditions or faulty ground support;
  • Installing, maintaining and inspecting ventilation, hand and power tools, fire extinguishers, air, water and drain lines;
  • Installing services, extending electrical and communication lines;
  • Conducting guarding, blasting, checking and cleaning drilled blast holes;
  • Performing basic maintenance on operating equipment (pre-start checks, refueling, lube fill, washing down);
  • Performing related duties and activities as directed by the Underground Supervisor or as required.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Strong safety mindset;
  • Valid Driver's License;
  • Keenness to work in an Underground mine environment;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in multiple functional areas typically associated with underground mining;
  • Proven ability to operate various pieces of underground equipment safely and productively;
  • Underground Mining experience and/or Blasting certification will be highly regarded;
  • Solid proficiency in reading and understanding manuals and written instructions;
  • Ability to work in high stress situations and resolve issues;
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and as part of a team.

Northern residency and experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the North, are assets.
