We are looking for a Principal Engineer who is capable of influencing managers and other leaders in the organization.

Reporting to the Manager - Process Safety and working in a collaborative community, within Metals Processing department, you will be:
  • Supporting site in own area of expertise in responding to significant process safety issues or problems and developing countermeasures and corrective action plans
  • Working with business unit leaders to ensure that support needed to reach the improvement plan is given to each business unit/site, by appropriate prioritization of projects and liaison with technical resources both within the Technology Group and globally or external to the organization
  • Facilitating groups to drive improvements in process safety
  • Monitors site performance in own area of expertise and provides expert advice about process safety and opportunities or process issues that arise during plan period
  • There is some flexibility to work from home while providing support to, and being a key member of the Smelter leadership team.

What you'll bring
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Chemical or Metallurgical Engineer experience
  • Process Safety Engineer experience
  • Compliance or Assurance experience in Government, Military, Nuclear or other heavily regulated industry.
  • Experience in heavy industry (e.g., mining, oil & gas, metals processing, smelting, chemicals, etc.)
  • You will bring your expertise influencing stakeholders as an individual contributor.
  • Strong background in facilitating and leading groups to drive improvements in process safety.

Where you'll be working

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903, and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
