Working closely with the Productivity and Business leaders at each of our operations to drive performance, the General Manager Productivity directly supports the Rio Tinto Minerals leadership team driving performance through productivity enhancement.

The Rio Tinto Minerals productivity programme has successfully delivered value-driven improvements at the site level and is ready to be taken to the next level. It is the key platform for the success of Rio Tinto Minerals and our ability to deliver on our operational and financial targets. A critical driver to enhancing our performance and 'becoming the best operator' will be through the deployment of Rio Tinto safe production system (RTSPS). Having a whole of business approach will ensure success across our organization.

This is a great opportunity to strategically manage the productivity program at the product group level, providing guidance to our operations and facilitating long-term sustainable value for the Minerals Product Group.

About your role

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer - Minerals, and working in a challenging and exciting environment, you will:
  • Oversee productivity teams supporting each of the Business Units ensuring ethical behaviours, respect, and an interdependent safety culture.
  • Drive the implementation of RTSPS across the Minerals Product group and demonstrate at group level the impact for assets (both lighthouse sites, current best practices and future site implementation)
  • Deliver a performance framework that focus on forward looking delivery through key site based KPIs (operational / asset management) and financial (cost and value pipeline and link to financials) and provides support to assets on improvement and insight to the senior leadership team on delivery gaps and actions
  • Enhance and consolidate best practices in asset management and maintenance to deliver improved operational performance.
  • For any assets that may be acquired / developed, ensure consistent approach to productivity and performance approach
  • Capital management technical support to both portfolio review and governance, as well as coordination of external expert opinions for large scale projects
  • Coordinate the use and support from the different Rio Tinto Centers of Excellence (COE) and external experts
  • Deliver a crisp and clear story around our productivity journey as a Product group and the link to RTSPS and the assets full potential (BFP)
  • Strategically direct discipline governance and quality assurance across productivity improvement initiatives supporting operations to identify and establish a pipeline of cash improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Business Partners of each site to ensure that projects are appropriately valued and tracked using a transparent, consistent and structured stage-gate process.
  • Build, nurture and maintain strong relationships with the key range of stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration and improvement.

To be successful you will have:
  • Degree qualifications in either an operational/technical or financial discipline.
  • A solid understanding of mining and processing production environments.
  • A strong understanding of financial principles, metrics and value drivers and an ability to challenge standard processes.
  • An ability to influence at all levels of the business, including in the operations and across the Minerals leadership team, with a demonstrated ability to develop and manage key relationships with stakeholders, including operational teams.
  • An ability to work independently to drive outcomes and influence.
  • Experience in transformation, business improvement or productivity related projects within industry or management consulting organizations.
