This role is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic finance, payroll or human resources practitioner who is up for the challenge of working as part of a global payroll team.

Reporting into the Payroll Team Lead North America, you will be responsible to support and deliver on the following:
  • Support and responsible of ensuring that payroll services are efficient and effective for certain Product Groups in Rio Tinto in Canada
  • Ensure our compliance obligation are maintained and internal controls are performed and remain compliant to regulatory needs and per SOX.
  • Be the point of contact for Government bodies, and deliver on internal and external statutory audit requirements
  • Liaise, review and manage our outsource payroll provider to assure efficient and effective delivery of payroll on time and accuracy.
  • Assure a liaison with our HR teams and Benefits to solve complexe problèmes and answer employee requests and escalations.
  • You will work in a large, specialized HR and Finance group, that works globally and regionally. You will support stakeholders on upstream and downstream processes related to payroll.
  • You will be responsible to support the Payroll Advisor to deliver the payroll and master data activities for specific scopes.
  • You will work with IT Teams to ensure our systems are compliant and remain up to date
  • You will build, review, and sign off on Desktop procedure of our processes
  • You will be communicating with different Gov't bodies to reconcile, understanding requirement, and delivering on them.
  • Support simple/complex payroll calculations
  • Participate in Continuous improvement initiative in the Shared service payroll area.

What you will bring

It will also be beneficial to have the following:
  • Bachelor in HR, in business or accounting/finance; College degree with experience
  • 5-10 or more years in payroll and responsible for payroll activities
  • CPA designation
  • Good knowledge of the payroll laws and rules in CAD and North West territories specifically
  • Bilingual necessary
  • Has managed payroll including unionized employees
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Autonomous and understands the application of payroll rules in systems
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and departments
  • Good knowledge of SAP Payroll
  • Has performed and owned Payroll Year End activities (an asset )
  • Has worked with and understand SOP/DTP (desktop procedure)
  • Has worked in a Shared service environment for a large company
  • Worked in a project environment or has knowledge of it (an asset)
  • Have worked in an outsourcing work environment
  • Manages simple and complex problem and has a positive mindset.
