About the role

We are looking for an NDT Technician to provide a specialist Non Destructive Testing Service to the refinery.

We now have an exciting opportunity available for a motivated and committed individual to join us on a 2-year fixed term basis. This is a great role for an individual who is wanting to learn a new skill and is excited about growing their career within a global company. You do not need to have experience for this role, we can train you, but what we are really looking for is a good attitude and someone who really wants to learn. If you had some type of NDT working knowledge that would be great, but if not, that's ok, we are willing to teach you. If you have a desire to work in a fast-paced environment and enjoy dealing with a broad range of stakeholders, then this role is for you.

This role is a great opportunity to work within the maintenance strategy to perform various non-destructive testing techniques to monitor plant condition. These include Rapid Motion Scanning (RMS), ultrasonic thickness testing, crack detection and weld inspection.

Reporting to and being mentored by the Advisor Tank Integrity and working in a diverse team within the Engineering department, you will:
  • Able to produce detailed plant condition reports with relevant standards.
  • Able to produce detailed plant condition reports with relevant standards.
  • Operate RMS scanner and be able to interpret and report collected data.
  • Perform 3D Laser scanning, analyse and report collected data.
  • Maintain the refinery's Non Destructive Testing Reporting Systems and identify changes to the maintenance strategy based on plant condition data.
  • Liaise with engineering team members to establish priorities for work arising from NDT.

It would also be beneficial if you have:
  • Previous RMS experience
  • Interest or background in information technology or software programming
  • Heavy industry and storage tank experience
  • AINDT qualifications or equivalent in Phased Array Level 2, Eddy Current Level 2, Ultrasonic Testing Level 2, Magnetic Particle Testing Level 2, Dye Penetrant Testing Level 2

Where you'll be working

With production beginning in 2004 at our Yarwun alumina refinery, located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, today the operation produces more than three million tonnes of alumina per year.

Around 700 people support the operation, with an additional 350 contractors on site each year as part of scheduled maintenance shutdown activities. Thanks to its 'Industry 4.0' focus, Yarwun is also a leader in trialling new technologies to improve operations on site, including 3D printing, robotics and drones in confined spaces, and is home to Rio Tinto's innovative Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC).

Along with Boyne Smelters Limited and Queensland Alumina Limited, our Yarwun Operation supports the local community in a wide range of initiatives.
