About the role

People Services forms the delivery team of our Human Resources function. It offers global expertise and services in areas of HR operations, Talent, Global Mobility and Recruitment

We are looking for a dynamic individual with a growth mindset to provide Human Resources operational support as a HR Generalist to our Procurement division within Commercial. The generalist duties for this role range from overseeing and performing HR generalist functions to managing Human Resources projects.

This role is a great opportunity to work with a collaborative team and continue your development as a skilled generalist in a fast paced, challenging work environment, and support broader project work globally. Reporting to the Commercial Team Lead, you will be:
  • Advising and coaching on employee relations matters to customers with a focus on early intervention and people centricity
  • Leading and participating in HR projects with exceptional attention to detail and out of the box thinking
  • Driving change with a focus on continuous improvement and challenging the status quo
  • Developing and embedding of HR procedures, systems, templates and reporting mechanisms
  • Building Leader capability in HR systems and processes including cyclical processes
  • Facilitating organisational change through to HR systems and processes

What you'll bring

To be successful in this position you will have:
  • Proven experience in human resources with a comprehensive knowledge of generalist HR activities
  • Demonstrated understanding of Australian Employment Law framework and best practice application of relevant legislation
  • Extensive experience in complex workplace investigations and advising on performance management practices
  • Ability to provide HR services remotely with experience in utilising technology platforms to facilitate stronger engagement and the flexibility for site travel within when required
  • Resilience and the ability to thrive in a continuous improvement culture and have a strong commitment to team-based processes and outcomes
  • Capacity and versatility to operate in a large and dynamic organisation which involves delivering business objectives remotely and across a diverse workforce
  • Excellent interpersonal influencing, coaching, communication, negotiation and consultation skills along with managing your time to deliver priorities
  • A desire for greater exposure to team leadership and seek to be a leader in the future an advantage for some roles

The Commercial group is focused on maximising the value of our products; growing value in the marketplace through partnership with the company's customers, suppliers, product groups and Group functions. Headquartered in Singapore, and integrated with Rio Tinto's assets, hubs, and offices globally, Commercial's purpose is to provide the commercial insights to drive value along the mine-to-market value chain.

Commercial incorporates and utilises the knowledge and capabilities of the global Sales & Marketing, Procurement, and Marine & Logistics organisations, supported by the Market Analysis, Commercial Treasury and other functions, to ensure our approach to business is driven by a commercially-astute and innovative mind-set.

The Commercial group came under the leadership of the newly appointed chief commercial officer on 1 January 2018.
