We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to support plant operations by working on critical electrical assets. The role may have an Electrical, Controls or Instrumentation emphasis. Dependent on the successful candidates' experience and needs of business, the role may support and/or report to any one of the teams within the Electrical Systems, Data, Technology, and Automation Team.

Rio Tinto Kennecott is a fully integrated mining operation located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, US. Kennecott is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto. About the role

This role is a great opportunity to join a truly global mining organization and be involved in the technical electrical support of mining operations. Reporting to a Plant Senior Electrical Engineer or the Central Principal Electrical Engineer, you will be:
  • Providing support to plant electrical and control systems by learning the systems and processes, keeping up required maintenance on those systems, troubleshooting failures and making improvements for a more sustainable operation.
  • Planning relevant safety requirements into all activities, tasks and projects based on assessed hazards, identified critical risks and mitigating actions
  • Contributing through applying technical/professional knowledge to solve complex problems and recommend solutions
  • Occasionally contributing to process improvements and will be working independently and receiving minimal guidance and providing guidance to less experienced staff
  • Developing, maintaining and implementing engineering standards for technical drawings, equipment, installation practices and workmanship for all Electrical and Instrumentation works
  • Keeping abreast of all technical, legal, contractual and legislative advances and changes in Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering which may impact the Company
  • Undertaking engineering investigations and providing clear recommendations for management action
  • Participating in continuous improvement by identifying and implementing activities which will enable the increase in production or the decrease in cost per ton of production
  • Ensuring site compliance with the electrical engineering standards and reviewing the standards on a regular basis

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or other relevant related technical field
  • 3-5 years work experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience with computer system applications, including Word, Excel, MS Project

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Experience with Engineering, Electrical and Controls is preferable.
  • Broad understanding of electrical power distribution systems of low, medium and high voltage
  • Experience with control systems including Emerson DeltaV and Rockwell Allen Bradley PLCs
  • Knowledge of electrical software tools and systems
