About the role

We are looking for multiple Millwrights to join the BC Works Aluminum Smelter & Services Maintenance teams, where they will provide construction, installation, relocation, repair, and preventative maintenance on machinery, equipment, and facilities for the optimum operating efficiency. Specific work schedule can vary based on the department, but typically can include a rotating roster with 12-hour shifts, nights, and weekends.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, and working within our Smelter Operations & Services Maintenance teams, you will be:
  • Working safely in accordance with Rio Tinto safety standards actively engaging in safety initiatives promoting our "Zero harm" safety culture
  • Following all required Rio Tinto Safety rules, lock-out/tag-out, and Isolation Procedures
  • Coordinating Millwrights function with overall Plant Operations; preparing parts lists and order and retrieving parts as needed
  • Diagnosing and repairing all types of rotating and conveying equipment, including pumps, elevators, screw conveyors, belting, material handling, and centrifuges and hydro generators
  • Using power and hand equipment, performing varied types of rigging, often at heights which require climbing and the use of safety equipment i.e., harness, lanyard, SRL's, man-lifts, scissor-lifts
  • Keeping your work area safe, clean and well maintained. Taking timely action to correct unsafe work conditions in your work area
  • Maintaining a continuous improvement focus by developing and participating in implementation of appropriate solutions to eliminate the issues/problems identified in the work area
  • Working effectively as an individual and within a team, including communicating respectfully to all team members and stakeholders

What you'll bring
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Interprovincial Red Seal Millwright certificate of qualification
  • Experience repairing industrial equipment
  • Must possess demonstrable mechanical aptitude and be skilled at rigging, fabricating, repairing equipment and welding. Rigging Equipment such as wire rope, chokers, synthetic slings, cable clamps, hooks, shackles, and other rigging apparatus
  • Must be able to read blueprints and drawings
  • Must know and be able to give correct crane signals, calculate loads and rig correctly training provided
  • Valid Driver's License (minimum of B.C. Class 7)
  • Willing to work shift schedules, including rotating 12-hour shifts (rosters include both days, nights, and weekends)
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with all team members
