Senior Geotechnical Engineer (Kennecott Utah Copper LLC; South Jordan, UT)

Senior GeotechnicalEngineer (Kennecott Utah Copper LLC; South Jordan, UT) Responsible for carrying out geotechnical engineeringactivities across the full mining life cycle (conceptual to closure) for openpit mining operations. Provide geotechnical advice, analyses, designs, andplans. Responsible for the collation and analyses of rock mass data andmonitoring data to verify the rock mass response to mining, ensuring that thebest data is utilized in all geotechnical analyses leading to mine design andoperations. Provide core geotechnical design skills; rock mass data acquisitionand rock mass characterization skills; numerical modelling capability;geotechnical monitoring and data analysis capability; ground support design;and ground control expertise. Full timeemployment, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.
  • Responsible for carrying out geotechnical engineering activities across the full mining life cycle (conceptual to closure) for open pit mining operations.
  • Provide geotechnical advice, analyses, designs, and plans.
  • Responsible for the collation and analyses of rock mass data and monitoring data to verify the rock mass response to mining, ensuring that the best data is utilized in all geotechnical analyses leading to mine design and operations.
  • Provide core geotechnical design skills; rock mass data acquisition and rock mass characterization skills; numerical modelling capability; geotechnical monitoring and data analysis capability; ground support design; and ground control expertise.
  • Full time employment, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field, and 8 years of related work experience, out of which 5 years must be post-bachelor's, progressive related work experience.

Of the required experience, must have 5 years of experience in each of the following:
  • Processing, analyzing and modelling geotechnical rock mass and monitoring data;
  • Modelling and interpreting the rock mass responses to mining for purposes of excavation stability, mine design optimization and mine (operational) performance;
  • Geotechnical engineering, mine design, and mining operations;
  • Rock mass assessments/stability assessments for incorporation into mine design and planning; and,
  • Ensuring compliance with safety standards and procedures.

Of the required experience, must have 2 years of experience in each of the following:
  • Analyzing and interpreting geotechnical monitoring data for the provision of accurate and timely information for all mining operations;
  • Operating procedures for geotechnical activities and quality assurance/quality control practices;
  • Geotechnical input to blast design to minimize blast damage; and
  • Implementing systems and processes that regularly monitor the triggers of all major geotechnical hazards.

Travel required up to 20%
