We are looking for a Substation Technician - Electrical High Voltage to join the Rio Tinto US High Voltage team and provide the skills required to ensure optimal reliability and sustainability of the high voltage infrastructure.

This role is a great opportunity to further develop your technical skills by ensuring that the high voltage substations are operated, maintained, and designed in a manner that ensures optimal performance. Working 4 days on 3 off roster and reporting to the Power Plant Energy Services Manager - US, you will be:
  • Programing, maintaining, calibrating & performing functional tests on both electromechanical and micro-processor based protective relays for high voltage substations
  • Inspecting, troubleshooting, testing, repairing, and maintaining substation equipment, including re-closers, regulators, breakers, capacitors, battery tripping units, surge arrestors, and filter banks
  • Performing function testing of substation control circuits on relay panel, transformers & circuit breaker change-outs
  • Performing monthly inspections and gathering all necessary data for generation of reports and updating records
  • Consulting manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams and engineering personnel in order to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems and determine optimum equipment functioning
  • Developing Standard Work Instructions for testing of substation equipment, including re-closers, regulators, breakers, capacitors, battery tripping units, surge arrestors, filter banks etc.

What you will need for this role:

* High school diploma or equivalent.

* Training and certification as a Journey Substation Technician
  • High focus of Substation safety
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal with stakeholders at all levels
  • Intermediate computer literacy (MS Office)

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Knowledge of SEL relays, ABB DCS, and SAP software
  • Ability to train and transfer skills
