About the role

We are currently looking for an intern in the Processing Center of Excellence team. This role is a great opportunity to work within a highly strategic team and will expose you to several of our operations and commodities. The role is based in Montreal - Rio Tinto's hub for the Americas.

In this role you will:
  • Assist the team in developing global tools to understand our time usage within our group. This program aims to provide a tool to analyze 'How we use time across our operations'.
  • Discuss with the various users to ensure data integrity in the database and suggest modifications to data ingestion.
  • Support the development of various views of downtime data which aims to understand common underlying factors and potential actions to improve processing plant operating time.
  • Assist the team with developing an analysis of the rate vs time usage or our assets and how we should leverage that knowledge to increase our productivity.

Your contribution

To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • Successfully completed 2+ years in a Bachelor of Chemical/Process Engineering with sound understanding of data analysis
  • Prior experience in mineral processing an asset
  • SQL knowledge is considered an asset
  • English and/or French proficiency, Bilingual an asset
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly driven, keen to learn and develop
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Able to be autonomous and effective at prioritizing

Our Montreal office is a global hub for Rio Tinto and supports operations across Canada, the United States and other parts of the world. It is the headquarters for our industry leading aluminium business and supports operations that produce a range of other materials including diamonds, copper, iron ore and industrial minerals. As well as Corporate Relations, our Montreal office includes corporate support functions such as Procurement, HR, IS&T, and Finance.
