About the Role

We are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to join the Mine Technical Services team of our Boron operation in California. The Geotechnical Engineering team provides support to the Mine Operation and the Mine Planning teams by managing geotechnical risks and minimizing production delays due to geotechnical events.

This role is a great opportunity to contribute to the organization safety and profitability while developing as a technical expert and leader. Reporting to the Senior Engineer- Geotech and Hydro, you will be responsible for:
  • Installing, operating, and maintaining geotechnical monitoring equipment, including Robotic Total Stations, extensometers, inclinometers, TDRs, Blastmates, seismic stations, and tiltmeters.
  • Collecting and analyzing monitoring data. Write reports interpreting the monitoring data.
  • Inspection of pit slopes and waste dumps. Prepare and distribute geotechnical hazard maps and monitoring reports in response to geotechnical events, and must also be available for on-call duty as needed.
  • Pit slope reconciliation audits.
  • Pit mapping, geotechnical logging and analysis of geologic structure data.
  • Slope stability evaluation and failure mitigation planning, using appropriate geotechnical software.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • Minimum of a BS degree in Geological, Mining, Engineering Geology or a related field.
  • An in-depth knowledge of geology, groundwater, rock and soil mechanics and roles they play in open pit slope stability.
  • At least two years of relevant experience in an open pit Geotechnical Engineer role.
  • Experience in pit mapping, core logging and the presentation of geologic structure data stereographically.
  • Familiarity with pit slope stability analysis software packages

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Familiarity with soft rock mining environment.
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam or its equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate pit slope monitoring data and slope stability analysis results to various groups, including non-technical audience.
