About the role

We are looking for a Mine Manager to be based near Boron, California. The Mine Manager is a strategic member of the leadership team and will play a significant part in the delivery of the Borates & Lithium strategy.

This role is a great opportunity for an experienced professional interested in leading a complex but rewarding part of the Boron operation. The Mine Manager is responsible to provide sound leadership to ensure safe and cost-effective mining operations that satisfies customer production and quality requirements. The role has the opportunity to lead all aspects of the mine including operations, maintenance, and mine technical and engineering functions.

Reporting to the Rio Tinto California Operations General Manager, you will:
  • Display an outstanding curiosity and willingness to engage employees on topics of safety and wellness and efficiency
  • Lead the Mining Operations health, safety, environmental and quality (HSEQ) programs and practices by overseeing their implementation, maintenance and application.
  • Create an inclusive work environment and work with employees to ensure the work and behaviors of the team align with Company values.
  • Have strong communication skills and proven ability to engage and build relationships across multiple layers of an organization from management to front line leaders, technicians, operators, and functional teams
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to ensure the strategy for the mine is focused on and achieves organizational objectives
  • Lead Technical, Operations and Maintenance leaders by ensuring their professional development, and managing their performance according to established objectives and responsibilities
  • Oversee the strategic direction of the mine including long range and life of mine planning working closely with the mine technical team
  • Ensure efficient and cost-effective operations working closely with procurement and capital planning teams to meet business objectives
  • Actively support the Carbon reduction planning and projects including engaging with internal and external stakeholders and partnerships

About you

  • Engaging and inclusive leadership skills;
  • Demonstrated career of progressive mining experience in a leadership capacity
  • History of high-performance leading mining operational and maintenance
  • Ability to work constructively with business partners to achieve operational outcomes;
  • Ability to lead large teams and deliver through others;
  • Related degree qualification in engineering, preferably in mine engineering or geoscience;
  • Demonstrated skills in stakeholder management within an integrated operation
