About the role

We are looking for a Refrigeration Mechanic to join the Rio Tinto Minerals Electrical Department and provide construction, installation, relocation, repair, and preventative maintenance on machinery, equipment, and facilities for the optimum operating efficiency of the Boron Plant.

This role is a great opportunity to become part of Rio Tinto Minerals (RTM) that operates globally providing borates to world markets. Working and reporting to the Department Supervisor, you will be:
  • Coordinates Refrigeration Mechanic's function with overall Plant operations.
  • Uses oxy-acetylene torch to join and repair piping systems when performing installation and maintenance on HVAC systems and air compressor systems.
  • Perform all testing and balancing of HVAC and mechanical process systems.
  • Troubleshoot HVAC and building automation control systems using good judgement and experience.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs HVAC, electrical, instrument and mechanical systems throughout the Plant.
  • Use specialized tools such as flow hood, Pitot tube, tachometer, voltmeter, amp meter, etc.
  • Transfer field data accurately onto reports as needed.
  • Participate in training as directed in testing procedures and use of equipment, controls, and HVAC systems.
  • Gives direction and trains less-skilled employees.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Able to read and write in English and exhibit proficiency in basic math
  • Must have a universal EPA technician certificate, able to read HVAC schematics/wiring diagrams, building blueprints to determine proper air and water flow balancing requirements
  • Four years' experience in Commercial HVAC maintenance
  • Installing Commercial HVAC units including duct work, piping, and electrical, and installing and calibrating multi-zone controls.
  • Strong background in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical systems on 5 to 50 ton heating and cooling units
  • Basic computer skills
