At Rio Tinto we produce Metals and Minerals essential to human progress.You will drive the materials development and supporting solutions to bring to market Rio Tinto Aluminium, Copper, Borates, Metallics and Critical Minerals including battery materials across Asia Pacific. This role, along with the team will be accountable and responsible for building and unlocking Rio Tinto multi-materials value potential through innovations in collaboration with R&D teams and market development input. This role is also accountable for making Rio Tinto a strong supplier of choice for high grade products by delivering superior solutions to customers and end-users. Join this fast-paced team that is accountable for driving the external industrial strategy of the company for and with our customers and supply chains.

Reporting to the Global Head of Marketing, Development and ESG, Metals and Minerals you will be:
  • Leading a multi-disciplinary team of high-performance professionals.
  • Bringing to market the materials and solutions differentiators leading to downstream partnerships with customers.
  • Fostering end-users demand creation through materials expertise and customized solution.
  • Leading materials and applications development.
  • Working closely with Sales to provide technical product support.
  • Rio Tinto brand ambassador in the industry through technical activism.
  • Identifying and monitoring industry trends.
  • Aligning materials demand and lead innovation R&D pipeline.
  • Creating Value in Use models to assess the material full potential.
  • Working closely with Product Stewardship and Quality Assurance.
  • Supporting senior management on business reporting activities and synthesis of information for communication.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Master's degree in Material Science or Equivalent is required.
  • At least 15 years of relevant and progressive experience in material development, particularly linked with sales & marketing.
  • Professional experiences from the end-users or consumers markets we serve.
  • Self-motivated and initiative seeking leader with drive to implement and impact the strategy irrespective of audience.
  • Create an environment of engagement, empowerment and collaboration in teamwork and teams. Generate the next round of disruptive thinking.
  • Ability to present technical content in a simple and digestible manner.
  • Ability to lead a group of dynamic, diverse and industry technical experts' team of individuals and keep them engaged and motivated towards our common strategic goals.
  • Proven abilities in navigating and operating successfully in a matrix organization across multi-materials, with stakeholders' engagement.
  • Leadership competencies in collaboration, listening, ability to receive and provide feedback in a positive manner and embodiment of RT behaviors will be required.
  • Ability to travel.
