About the role:

Rio Tinto has recently announced an ambitious strategy to transition our business away from the use of diesel to and decarbonise.

We are looking for an experienced Strategy Analyst to join our Fixed Equipment team - 'Diesel Transition office', (DTO) role within Global Procurement based in our Perth office.

About the role

This role is a great opportunity to advance your commercial career with a high performing team in a leading mining and metals organisation. Reporting to the DTO Program Lead, some of the accountabilities of this role include:
  • Owning the single source of truth on initiatives, including abatement potential
  • Supporting the development and refinement of the diesel transition strategy
  • Owning a budget and Total Cost of Ownership model for individual initiatives as well as the collective portfolio
  • Responsible for assessing, valuing and influencing major investment proposals, including preparing proposals for the Investment Committee and Board
  • Responsible for providing commercial and analytical support to operations leadership
  • Engaging with the business to assess the financial viability of projects and programmes through appropriate evaluation using detailed financial modelling to identify key drivers for optimising project value
  • Reviewing and providing recommendations on capital expenditure applications, major operating cost decisions and post investment reviews
  • Fostering a culture of zero harm and continuous improvement

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Tertiary qualification
  • Post-graduate Finance, MBA or similar qualification highly desirable
  • Excellent analytical skills and application of acquired technical experience in complicated or novel situations to provide business insights.
  • Ability to filter, analyse, and validate complex and dynamic information
  • Knowledge or capability to learn best modelling practice
  • A creative outlook combined with practicality and strategic focus
  • Strong commercial and business acumen
  • Capable of effectively communicating at all levels and working in a team
  • Ability to build relationships and to influence stakeholders
  • Sound values with high business integrity
  • Highly autonomous with sense of ownership and accountability
  • Analysis experience and skills at senior level, in positions which have had a strong strategic focus is helpful
  • Experience in managing and working within high performing teams is helpful
