Orientation

Our orientation process is a key component in welcoming and introducing you to the company. Your orientation will consist of two primary components:

Training Activities

Our company values learning and continuous skill development. We believe that one of the most important benefits we can provide our employees is the opportunity to advance within the company and reach their full career potential. As an intern you will have the opportunity to participate in various training classes. We will offer Safety Training and Presentation Skills Training.

Safety is of primary importance to Sibanye-Stillwater. Our goal is to ensure everyone goes home safely every day. You will be going through specific safety training related to your internship during your first several days.

Final Presentation

You will be required to conduct a 10 to 15 minute formal presentation to managers and other interns at the conclusion of your internship. This presentation provides an opportunity to showcase your work experience and gain exposure to various managers throughout the company. The exact content of your presentation is left to you and your manager's discretion, but it must reflect the work you have completed over the course of the summer. Below is a sample outline.

  • Highlights of projects and assignments accomplished and the outcome or impact on the business
  • Skills utilized, such as:
    • Problem Solving techniques
    • Communication skills
    • Leadership or supervisory skills
    • Decision-making
  • Relationships developed through interactions with other employees
  • Areas of success and achievement
  • Challenges and key learnings
  • Overall summary of internship experience, such as:
    • Expectations (what did you anticipate and were there surprises)
    • Components of the program (networking, training and development)

Performance Management

This process is designed to assess your performance and results against objectives you set with your manager at the beginning of your internship. Your manager will work closely with you throughout your internship to provide coaching and suggestions, and will also provide a formal end-of-summer evaluation. These reviews assist managers in determining your eligibility for successive internships, as well as providing insight into whether to offer regular employment upon the completion of your internship(s) or degree program.

  • Establish Objectives: Clear objectives will be confirmed between you and your manager at the beginning of the internship. This process will ensure you understand your manager's expectations, as well as how your work will be evaluated.
  • End-of-Summer Evaluation: Managers will conduct an end-of-summer evaluation as a way to manage your performance and provide feedback. Templates are available in the Appendices section of this guide.
    • Your manager will schedule a meeting with you during the last week of your work assignment following your presentation.
    • During this meeting you will discuss results achieved, strengths, contributions, and areas for development. Your manager will also provide feedback on your presentation.

Program Evaluation

Assessing the effectiveness of our intern program is critical to ensuring its long-term success. Therefore, you will be asked to provide feedback on your experience, including the following:

  • Intern Program Evaluation Questionnaire: This questionnaire will be completed at the end of your internship. The evaluation is used to assess how valuable you found your experience and to assist in identifying enhancement areas for the program. A template is available in the appendices of this guide.
