POSITION SUMMARY: The Environmental Specialist 3 is a senior environmental professional who will take ownership of and be accountable for specific aspects of Sibanye Stillwater's Stillwater Mine environmental programs. This position will be part of an environmental team championing Sibanye Stillwater's environmental programs, site compliance, training, permitting, and reporting functions.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Environmental Specialist 3 is a senior environmental professional who will take ownership of and be accountable for specific aspects of Sibanye Stillwater's Stillwater Mine environmental programs. This position will be part of an environmental team championing Sibanye Stillwater's environmental programs, site compliance, training, permitting, and reporting functions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Collaborate with site leads and other relevant site functions on the Environmental Management System (EMS) to ensure continued International Standard Organization (ISO) 14001:2015 certification
- Continue developing, implementing, and auditing EMS
- Be part of an environmental team for assurance of environmental compliance for an active mine
- Work across the operation for all aspects of environmental compliance and reporting, including air emissions, water management, waste handling, reclamation, chemical spill response
- Incorporate operational practices and environmental monitoring to construct conceptual site model of impacts to surface and groundwater
- Evaluate and execute groundwater remediation efforts
- Develop and implement Environmental-Social-Governance ("ESG") Training Programs for operational teams
- Oversee automation and technological advancements for environmental systems, water treatment facilities, inspections, reporting, and monitoring.
- Manage contractor activities
- Ensures compliance with environmental obligations through inspections, physical audits, and timely correction of identified deficiencies.
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- BS, MS, or Technical Degree in engineering, environmental, or earth sciences
- 6-10 years of environmental experience
- Knowledge of State and Federal regulations for active operation
- Experience in interface with regulatory agencies and stakeholders
- Strong leadership qualities: character, teamwork, communication, business sense, and vision
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
- Experience at an operating mine or industrial setting
- Experience with implementation of ISO certification
- Environmental automation and systems programming
