Safety Coordinator

Location: Metallurgical Complex - Columbus, MT

POSITION SUMMARY: Assist in the development, management and continual improvement of the Site Safety and Health Management System for Stillwater Mining Company's Metallurgical Complex to maintain compliance with Company, State, and Federal Regulations. Develop and maintain systems and evaluate field exposures to protect business interests as well as meet regulatory requirements for control of workplace health exposures. Industrial Hygiene related duties may include, but are not limited to: respirator fit testing, calibrating and maintaining all IH equipment, and conducting noise, containment, and heat surveys/sampling. Safety-related duties may include, but are not limited to: audits, planned inspections, accident investigations, developing and executing training, and supervisor coaching. Work schedule may vary based on needs of the operation.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma with at least 4 years of relevant experience
  • Leadership qualities including character, teamwork, communication, business sense, and vision
  • Solid working knowledge of processing operations
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively train employees
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with multiple departments and facilities
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and plan activities in a professional and expedient manner
  • Solid experience using Microsoft Office products with a strong ability to develop training aids using PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IH concepts and principles
  • Demonstrated knowledge and a firm understanding of fundamental Industrial Hygiene practices including sampling of dust, noise, and fumes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of 29 CFR 1910 and 29 CFR 1926
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Risk Management principles
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and train other employees
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Health, or related field
  • Understanding of Systematic Loss Control Program development and implementation
  • Previous experience as a Trainer
  • CAOHC Certification
  • NIOSH approved Respirator Surveillance Technician Certification
  • Eligibility to sit for ABIH exams
