About the Role

We currently have a full-time permanent opportunity for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join the Illawarra Metallurgical Coal (IMC) team at Dendrobium Mine. Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering professional services to site through:

  • Reviewing and analyzing strata monitoring,
  • Managing and updating geotechnical models, databases and plans,
  • Reviewing and designing strata support,
  • Geotechnical and conditional mapping,
  • Managing strata documentation (e.g. TARP's, procedures, plans, etc.),
  • Initiating trials of new technologies, products and systems,
  • Liaising with site management and workforce on identifying continuous improvement opportunities in the mining operations with timely solutions,
  • Contribute to optimising the mine plan through geotechnical considerations,
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety through QA/QC inspections and audits, mentoring and training.

About You

In addition, you should possess:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Mining Engineering or Geology, with Post-Graduate qualifications in Coal Mine Strata Control
  • Experience with the monitoring and design of underground support systems,
  • Solid background working in an underground coal mine,
  • Proven ability of working in a team of technical professions,
  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence across various levels of the business,
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and work to effectively manage a dynamic workload.

This position will be at our Dendrobium mine which are in the southern coalfields of New South Wales, near the coastal city of Wollongong and approximately 75 kilometres south and southwest of Sydney.
