The Opportunity

The role is of Mechanical Engineer is responsible for mechanical engineering standards, specifications, procedures, and designs at Cannington. Reporting to the Superintendent Projects & Engineering, you will provide core mechanical design expertise for equipment, systems and processes for existing plant, infrastructure, and new projects.

The role is a 9month Fixed Term position on a 4/3 Roster, Fly-in/Fly-out from Townsville or Brisbane or Drive-in/Drive-out from Mount Isa


Primary responsibilities are but not limited to:

  • Ensuring the mechanical engineering scope of capital and opex studies is delivered on time and within budget to the required specifications,
  • Responsible for reporting progress against plan
  • Visibly lead safe behavior, coaching workers in safe behaviors and routines including workplace interactions.
  • Responsible for reviewing consultant and contractors mechanical engineering work and auditing technical changes on site for compliance
  • Manage technical documents, including reviewing and signing off for compliance on all site mechanical updates to standard, specification, procedures, and drawings, ensuring the blueprint is updated with the latest version

Experience required

You'll be a great fit if you have:

  • Motivation with the ability to effectively communicate and influence across various levels of the business
  • A minimum of 5years experience, preferably working on brownfield improvement projects
  • Adequate knowledge of AS/NZS standards
  • Computer proficient in the Microsoft office suite and MS Projects
  • 1SAP and SharePoint experience preferred
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision
  • A proven commitment to Safety and Fitness for Work


  • Bachelor's in mechanical engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland - Desired
