About the role

Reporting to the Superintendent Safety, Risk & Training, you will be responsible for contributing to the development, governance and continuous improvement of IMC's safety management standards, procedures, tools and programs to enable the operations to effectively manage safety risk.

You will provide specialist & technical support to operations to ensure the Safety Programs and Management Systems adhere to internal standards, regulatory and operational requirements.

This is a permanent full-time position and a great opportunity to join South32 at Illawarra Metallurgical Coal.

Key accountabilities -

  • Develop and implement safety improvement initiatives
  • Visibly lead and coach safe behaviours and delivery specialist, independent and technically capable safety support, tools, coaching and training to process owners
  • Govern the incident management process
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting of safety performance and the progress of safety improvement programs
  • Undertake analysis of short-term trends in leading and lagging safety KPI's and the identification of focus areas and corrective actions to be implemented.

About you

You will have a solid background working in a Health & Safety role in the Mining or Heavy Industry. Our values of Care, Trust, Togetherness and Excellence will guide your decision making and interactions.

To be considered for the role, you must have:

  • Bachelor's degree/diploma (Safety / Science / Engineering or similar)
  • Knowledge of key concepts theories and practices related to the effective management of H&S related risks
  • Demonstrated ability to influence internal stakeholders through effective data analysis and communication skills
  • Experience in identifying issues, analysing data and recommending practical improvement solutions

This position will be based at our Appin mine which is located in the southern coalfield of New South Wales, near the coastal city of Wollongong and approximately 75 kilometres south and southwest of Sydney.
