The location of this role is the Tucson, Arizona office.

The Role

The successful candidate will act as the support arm for HR services team and to respective customers by providing support to business leaders in making good people decisions across the employee lifecycle. This includes a focus on building strong teams, influencing employee relations and driving the South32 culture.

With general supervision, the successful candidate acts as a positive change agent and anticipates needs of the respective assets / functions.

Accountabilities ( Include but are not limited to) :

Individual Accountabilities
  • Provide direct support and assist with coordination of human resources and payroll initiatives
  • Ensure understanding and technical knowledge to effectively support HR programs and strategy
  • Model South32 Values, culture and engagement initiatives
  • Promote new ways of working and appropriate local-level interventions to maximize opportunities, support change while mitigating risk. Create templates and forms for easier and more efficient processes
  • Maintain understanding of legal requirements related to day-to-day human resources activities reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Track candidates in the recruitment process ensuring that all pre-employment, relocation and pre-onboarding requirements are met
  • Assist with the talent acquisition, recruitment and onboarding details. Assist with onboarding of new employees, including the creation of welcome packages ensuring onboarding documents are completed timely and accurately
  • Coordinate candidate travel
  • Assist with maintaining HR and Payroll reports as assigned (attendance tracking, PTO balances, etc.),
  • Maintain HR related documentation and records in adherence to legal, statutory and compliance requirements
  • Update and maintain HR/PR/Benefits sections in Hermosa Hub (intranet).
  • Work collaboratively with departments (office and site) with common internal communications, regulatory postings and employee engagement activities
  • Create and maintain a central file for company job descriptions and interview guides
  • Assist with off boarding of exiting employees including the timely completion of the off-boarding checklist.
  • Maintain HR subscriptions such as LinkedIn, CareerMine and others as needed
  • Provide input and/or assist with organization team building activities and annual events
  • Special HR and PR Projects and all other duties as assigned
  • Provides clerical and operational support as needed


Qualifications, Skills, and Expertise:
  • Relevant degree or appropriate experience
  • Clear, concise and influential written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem solving and root cause identification and positive resolution skills
  • Able to develop options, analyse risk, make good judgements, and solve problems
  • Bias for action, stellar work ethic and desire to achieve excellence
  • Solutions focused and strength working in an environment that requires timely deliverables along with the ability to identify concerns and implement appropriate solutions
  • One (1) to three (3) years' experience in a human resources role with preference given to candidates who have mining, heavy industrial operations or major capital projects experience
  • Possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills coupled with a strong partner service ethic to build strong internal and external relationships
  • Constructively challenge decisions which are not in best interest of the organization
  • Ability to support a 24/7 environment that has multiple shifts and shift requirements
  • Competency with the common Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Exposure to some HR and recruitment Software systems (Success Factors, ADP, SAP and SharePoint is preferred).
  • General knowledge of HR policies and procedures
  • General knowledge of HR SAP system or other similar HR ERP system
