About the role

The Mine Site Rehabilitation Crew Mentor works together with a team of Indigenous Groote Eylandt traditional owners. Together we help unlock each other's fullest potential (both inside and out of work). This position is critical to delivering the Rehabilitation Team's purpose statement of "together with the Anindilyakwa people we exchange knowledge, skills, understanding and confidence to live and work now and beyond GEMCO."

The position is offered on a 5 on x 2 off, 4 on x 3 off (9-day fortnight), 9.5 hour dayshift family friendly residential roster.

Key duties include:

  • Assist the Rehabilitation Supervisor and Mine Site Rehabilitation Team to plan, scope and safely execute a range of activities including native seed collection, nursery propagation, tree planting, weed management, arboriculture, and other tasks to industry best practice standards.
  • Role model strong visible safety leadership.
  • Motivate and coach the team to overcome a range of challenges both inside and out of work.
  • Exchange knowledge and drive two-way learning by sharing mainstream work practices whilst learning aspects of local indigenous culture and work practices.


About You

You'll be a great fit if you have:

  • Demonstrated experience and/or qualifications in Mine Site Rehabilitation, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Sciences, Horticulture or Indigenous Employment/training or other similar industries.
  • Ability to work alongside indigenous employees to achieve training outcomes and ensure employees remain engaged in day-to-day activities.
  • A passion for working in a team to continuously improve the Mine Site Rehabilitation program and deliver the Rehabilitation purpose statement.
  • Familiarity with record keeping systems and ability to operate computer programs including Microsoft Office suite, SAP and Global360 or like systems.
  • NT Drivers Licence or ability to obtain
