The location of this role is the Tucson, Arizona office.

The Role

As the GIS Specialist, you will contribute to the successful and timely delivery of GIS initiatives and projects and ensure adherence to established methodologies, processes, and standards. A critical part to this role is to engage with the key stakeholders of the project to build a deep understanding of their strategies and value drivers, to prioritize work across the GIS portfolio, and to develop and implement an approach for GIS support and capability across the operation.
  • This role is responsible for aligning GIS objectives to the business and consult on all GIS issues
  • Act as change agent to deliver new solutions
  • Partner with business to establish fit for purpose GIS solutions that contribute to business performance


Accountabilities ( Include but are not limited to):

In dividual Accountabilities :

Identify and analyse GIS related business requirements and translate into technical requirements for inclusion in system enhancement projects
  • Testing of GIS system enhancements and provide support to business users
  • Create and maintain detailed design, technical, system, user and process documentation ensuring that all documents are managed and stored according to business quality requirements
  • Provide technical advice, support and incident resolution to system users and stakeholders of the GIS applications
  • Ensure consistency in report logic and implement standard reports for common requests to encourage self-service reporting
  • Providing a high level of support to users of the GIS applications and keeping abreast of constantly changing business needs for spatial data
  • Ensuring the availability, integrity, performance and maintainability of the GIS applications and related interfaces
  • Building and maintaining sustainable relationships with business stakeholders and IT to provide a high level of technical support
  • Partner with business to predict GIS solutions to meet the growth of the business
  • Change management / and project lead; concept to delivery
  • Effective coordination skills
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Sound understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Ability to demonstrate expertise in Geographic Information System (GIS) software, preferably ArcGIS Server (inc ArcSDE) and Desktop, SQL Server, ER Mapper, Portal for ArcGIS, Apollo Image Web Server

Qualifications, Skills, and Expertise:
  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography or related field, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Mining industry experience preferred, but not necessary
  • Experience using ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and/or ArcGIS Portal
  • Remote sensing/image processing experience
  • Experience with working with Property and Land Information
  • Demonstrated experience working with GIS data structures, relational databases, system interfacing and associated system design
  • Practical experience working with spatial manipulation tools including FME Workbench to identify, analyse, report and manage data
  • Lead solution through complete phase (concept to delivery)
