POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Health & Safety Superintendent, the Health & Safety Senior Coordinator will proactively manage the operational requirements in the development, implementation and review of strategy, policy, procedures, standards, and practices relating to security and health and safety objectives in a manner which ensures compliance with Provincial and Federal regulations, as well as with Corporate standards. Drives the operation towards ownership of best practices and behaviors for a secure, safe, and healthy work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee and give direction to the safety coordinators, primary care paramedics, and site security supervisor
  • Develop and facilitate the implementation of health and safety risk assessment and action plans and safe operating procedures in a manner which meets best practice standards and ensures continuous improvement in the reduction of accident and injury within the mine
  • Actively involved in the injury management team
  • Participate in the reporting process
  • Monitor and report on performance of the safety coordinators and paramedics to the HSS manager and Superintendent
  • Assist with Root Causal Analysis investigations
  • Create new safety policies, procedures, permits or revise existing documents
  • Drive the development of a culture based on ownership and accountability to increase health and safety awareness
  • Work in a collaborative spirit with the leadership team and entire workforce
  • Manage the internal and external audit requirements and make recommendations for improved performance relating to areas of non-compliance
  • Provide ongoing training, resources and development for mine personnel relating to best practices in health, safety, and security
  • Ensure compliance with all safety requirements, drug and alcohol policy, environmental and other work site rules, and regulations
  • Ensure knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and applicable acts and codes is kept current and up to date
  • Liaise with key contractors, regulatory bodies, and industry professionals
  • Support the provision of security, inspection, control, and monitoring services to effectively secure the Mount Milligan work site
  • Oversee the monitoring and control access to the work site ensuring only authorized personnel enter the premises


SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
  • Degree, Diploma or Certificate in Health and Safety Management
  • A minimum of 8 years experience in a similar role in mining/heavy industry
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Injury management experience
  • Emergency response experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge or Excel, Word, Power Point
  • Strong leadership and team building skills with the ability to build positive working relationships with a diverse workforce
  • A thorough understanding of drug and alcohol testing
  • Knowledge and understanding of safety and environment standards pertaining to legislation and the mining industry in British Columbia


  • WORK SCHEDULE:

    • This is a camp-based position with a schedule of 14 days' working with 14 days' rest, 12 hours per day.


    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    • The role is located at the Mount Milligan Mine, which is approximately 155 kilometers northwest of Prince George, British Columbia.
    • Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region. Employees accessing the site from outside the region are eligible to receive a tax-free travel allowance commensurate with the distance they are required to travel.
    • Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts.
    • Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
