POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Superintendent, Tailings Storage Facility, the TSF Senior Geotechnical Engineer will assume the role of TSF Qualified Person (QP) as described in Health, Safety & Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia. The incumbent will be also involved in planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating various TSF activities at the Mount Milligan mine.

They will also bring a deep understanding of innovation and industry-leading best practices, along with an established reputation for operating within a culture committed to safety, to environmentally sustainable operations, and to operating in a socially responsible manner.

Responsibilities:
  • TSF Qualified Person for the Mt. Milligan, Kemess and Endako sites in accordance with the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC (Code 10.4.2).
  • Manage all aspects of QA/QC for TSF construction.
  • Responsible for TSF monitoring activities.
  • Liaise with regulators and external stakeholders.
  • Liaise with TSF Independent Technical Review Board (ITRB) on behalf of site.
  • Manage TSF Engineer of Record consultants.
  • Responsible for oversight of TSF water management infrastructure.


Skills/Experience/Education
  • Licensed or eligible to be licensed as Professional Engineer in BC
  • Minimum 10 years of geotechnical professional experience with emphasis on TSF infrastructure
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (concentration in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering)
  • Experience with TSF design, construction, and monitoring
  • Experience with slope stability and seepage modeling software
  • Able to lead geotechnical investigations such as drilling, field testing, and instrumentation
  • Experience in Dam Safety Inspection & Review
  • Knowledge of standards applicable to Geotechnical Engineering disciplines, with experience related to dams and dam safety
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team applying geotechnical engineering skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated and growth-oriented
  • Superior interpersonal and relationship-building abilities and the capacity to work independently and in a team environment with people of all levels
  • Proven ability to manage competing demands while remaining flexible and able to empower others

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • This is a camp-based position with a schedule 4 days of work and 3 days of rest. Consideration may be given to alternate schedules (14x14, 7x7).
  • Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts.

  • The role is located at the Mount Milligan Mine, which is approximately 155 kilometers northwest of Prince George, British Columbia.

  • Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region. Employees accessing the site from outside the region are eligible to receive a tax-free travel allowance commensurate with the distance they are required to travel.
