The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Superintendent, Section Lead, Mills Technology to join our Sudbury Operations in Sudbury, Ontario.

Although previous experience in mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences – and that’s what makes us great!

Education & Experience:
  • Education: Must have an undergraduate degree in an engineering discipline, preferably mineral processing. Must possess a Professional Engineering Certification.
  • Experience: A minimum of eight years or relevant experience.
  • Strong analytical thinking, time management and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication (technical and non-technical)
  • Coaching, mentoring, and leadership experience
  • Systems development experience

Requirements & Accountabilities:
  • Maintain work practices - comply with group's operating budget and ensure adequate systems (SLA's, CSA's, SOP's, guidelines) are in place for all the tasks/projects within group's scope of work
  • Follow and ensure compliance to the IRS and Vale HomeSafe system requirements for all direct reports and be a leader in safety for the team and the plant 
  • Manage project portfolio - provide technical resources and support to plant improvement projects (capital and operating) ranging from participating on the teams to leading the project (budget, schedules, targets, metrics)
  • Create and manage a 1 year and 5-year execution plan that supports the Ontario division’s goals and long-term strategic projects. Execute any process related R&D planned for the area.
  • Deliver technical support - provide input to the Manager's plans (budget, production, execution, capital and R&D), monitoring the health of the process, metallurgical reporting, metals accounting, longer term trend analysis, assign tasks as needed to support the business. Accountable for the outputs of his/her subordinates to optimize the process on 24-hour x 7 day a week basis. In the direct output support role, the Section Leader assists the Clarabelle Leadership team in developing plans and actions to meet monthly, quarterly and yearly targets. Monitor variability in metallurgical process parameters and take corrective action with the technical team members, advise the Clarabelle Leadership team accordingly and escalate issues as required.
  • People management - contribute and maintain the Career & Succession Planning processes. Advises the Manager on improving the capability of the L1 team to meet future needs through selection and development. Develop and maintain employee performance expectations and succession plans. Interview and recommend hires to the technical group.
  • Promotes working across boundaries for the betterment of the business
