Our Vale Base Metals Quality and HRD Department is currently seeking an:

Learning & Development Supervisor (Underground); based in Sudbury, ON
The Opportunity:
To continuously improve the work team (crew) performance though effective use of established processes and procedures in achieving assigned objectives. The L&D Supervisor is assigned to supervise the “training work” components of the work management routine. This role carries out tasks while on shift on behalf of the L&D Superintendent and as such assists the L&D Superintendent in achieving the overall area targets for his/ her area of process of responsibility.

The primary contribution of this role is to assign work to the L&D instructors and trainees through the morning crew line-up, so each member of the crew knows what has to be done in terms of quantity, quality, and time for his/ her area of work (ex: functional training instruction) and can do it SAFELY. This role provides the necessary guidance, instructions and support to the L&D crew during the shift so immediate obstacles can be overcome, crew members have the necessary equipment and material to carry out the assigned work, and issues requiring L&D Superintendent approval are quickly escalated for resolution.

The assignment of work to the L&D crew entails detailing out the tasks for completion on a daily, weekly or monthly basis as required; engaging members of the L&D crew in the work management routine while making effective use of resources in following the pre-defined steps for functional training activities at each plant. The L&D Supervisor recommends corrective actions based on monitoring the conditions that could adversely affect or exceed the scheduled training activities for the shift.

  • On shift, hold team accountable for safety, behavior, housekeeping, teamwork and professionalism
  • Obtain all pertinent information and plan the work to assign training tasks to crew members as based on the 7/21 plan and schedules for the shift.
  • Carry out tasks as assigned by the L&D Superintendent or his/ her designate to achieve the desired results within an agreed upon timeline and end state
  • Work within budget, guidelines, and standards to execute safety and training plans as established by the L&D Superintendent
  • Work with the team to develop a truly collaborative workplace environment
  • Foster a climate of safety, mutual trust, and respect among all members of his/ her team
  • Work collectively with peers and cross functionally with colleagues in engineering, geology, maintenance, and services to achieve the objective of the mine in regard to training.
  • Request training in skills and development where required and communicate those needs to the L&D Superintendent.

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5- 7 years progressive mining experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
The incumbent is required to have:
  • Expert knowledge of Vale Ontario internal functional training system and Ontario Modular Training Programs
