Our Vale Exploration Department is currently seeking a:
Sr. Geologist, Project, located in Thompson, MB
The Opportunity:
As a Project Geologist, the individual will work as part of the Exploration team with primary Front-Line responsibility for HSE on Exploration Projects in North America. This role will involve drilling, techniques for geological mapping, Sampling techniques and sample preparation. The ideal candidate will also have fundamental comprehension of the main mineralizing processes related to the formation of base metal mineral deposits.
  • Conducts complex geological studies individually or by leading a small team of professionals
  • Evaluates deposits and prospective areas by reviewing and interpreting geological data, and providing recommendations concerning potential of project
  • Collects pertinent geoscience data during office studies and field surveys. Prioritizes further routine geoscience processing as warranted and supervises the process of such work with respect to schedules.
  • Compiles geoscience data and provides preliminary assessment on their exploration significance.
  • Produce diamond drill core descriptive logs which are scientifically accurate and time. All samples of mineralized intervals must follow proper procedures along with reasonably accurate estimates of grade to be used before assays are received.
  • Contributes to preparation of drilling proposals and plan drilling programs
  • Establishes preliminary efficient outlines of deposits based on analyses of the quality and size of deposits
  • Assists in formulating short-range exploration plans
  • Assist in budget preparation of assigned area
  • Preparation of technical reports
  • Interpreting maps and sections acquired through various geophysical methods
  • B.Sc. Degree (Geology or Earth Science) minimum, M.Sc. preferred
  • Registered Professional Geoscientist (or eligibie for P.Geo).
  • Minimum 4 years of proven experience
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Understanding of Environmental Laws
  • Geophysics: ability to interpret maps and sections acquired through various geophysical methods
  • Prior experience with contractor engagement and coordination
  • Strong Verbal and written communication
  • Ability and Agility to complete extensive field work in difficult terrains
  • Proficiency in Datamine, ArcGIS, Databases
