Our open-pit mine and concentrator in Voisey’s Bay - Vale’s only fly-in/fly-out operation in Canada - produces nickel-cobalt-copper
concentrate and copper concentrate. An underground expansion will see a transition to a leading edge underground mine. Our state-
of the-art facility in Long Harbour is the first nickel processing plant in the world to use hydrometallurgy technology to produce Plating

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Integrated Operations Superintendent to join our Underground Mining Operations team in Voisey’s Bay. This is a permanent position, with a 1 week on, 1 week off rotation.

As an Integrated Operations Superintendent, you will have the opportunity to look for new and exciting ways to improve the work team performance through effective use of established processes as defined at the mine. As an Integrated Operations Superintendent you will be accountable for conflict resolution and escalation of decisions in the week of execution, applying work breakdown detail to the primary mining activities, approving changes to the shift schedule and overseeing the updating of shift schedules by the Shift Scheduler.

In this position, you will:
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the process and leads a culture of continuous improvement within their area of accountability
  • Monitor execution compliance and identify continuous improvement opportunities to front line work execution efficiency and delivery of the annual plan
  • Accountable for producing 0-1 week committed execution plan within a rolling monthly integrated plant scheduleLead the Integrated Shift Scheduler, provide performance feedback, coach and counsel direct reports on the standards of behavior, and take corrective action as required
  • Lead conflict resolution within the week of execution raising unresolved escalations to the mine manager
  • Integrate input(s) from Operations, Engineering, Maintenance and Logistics into the planning schedule to meet the mine commitments
  • Exhibit effective Team Leadership and Team Membership behaviors
  • Identify and resolve key scheduling conflicts which may prevent the successful delivery of the mining plan.
  • Lead and ensure Safe Production behaviors are exhibited by team members. Coach members on consistently achieving ALARA and take corrective action when necessary to address noncompliance.
  • Complete data analysis using Excel and other internal systems, identify trends and make process improvement recommendations
  • Support Manager in delivering the Execution Plan through development and execution of the integrated plan and mine integrated schedule.
  • Develop action plans to first stabilize and then improve reliability metrics.
  • Support the development of execution plan strategies, and implement operating plans for the area(s) of responsibility, taking into account, targets and related actions to reduce incident frequency rates, environmental performance, production output, quality, costs and capital expenditures.
  • Provide performance feedback to team members and coach and counsel employees on the standards of behavior, and take corrective action as required.
  • Contribute to the Succession Planning processes. Advises the Manager on improving the capability of the team to meet future needs through selection and development.

    About You
  • Undergraduate Degree in Engineering
  • Professional Engineer Designation
  • 8+ years of technical experience in the mining industry or relevant field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role with multiple reporting managers.
  • Ability to adapt to changing business processes, technologies, and environments
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Solid verbal, written and analytical communication skills.
  • Ability to utilize each team member to their fullest potential while motivating the team to work together in the most efficient manner.
  • Proven time management and organization skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal and facilitation skills.
