Our Team:

Our corporate office, located in downtown Toronto serves as the headquarters for the global Base Metals business, providing support to all our Base Metals operations. In Mississauga, you’ll find Vale’s Base Metals Technology Development team; a group of highly trained engineers and scientists working to improve Vale’s competitive edge and support its growth strategies by coming up with safer and more environmentally responsible technology.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Compensation Analyst to join our Human Resources team in Toronto. This is a 12 month fixed-term position.

Responsible for providing support in the management and implementation of Vale's compensation programs relating to Base Metals employees. The incumbent provides assistance and advice to employees and managers as it relates to salary planning, incentive programs, performance management programs and other compensation related matters and projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assists the Sr Analyst, Compensation in all compensation-related activities/processes such as salary planning, performance management, bonus programs, LTI programs, and market analysis. Provide support in terms of data validation, system set-up, HRBP support, communications, and payroll validation.
  • Provide support in the administration of the Job Evaluation Process by conducting preliminary job evaluations for non-managerial positions
  • Liaise with HR Business Partners across Base Metals operations and geographies and provide requested information, as well as participate in discussions regarding initiatives/changes in organization structures and providing corresponding support
  • Manage the database and record of all job evaluations and job descriptions as well as compensation related tables and codes in HR source systems.
  • Create monthly KPIs for salary increases, job evaluation tracking, and other ad hoc requests for performance meetings
  • Conduct preliminary termination calculations for Matching and PSU for executives
  • Responsible for tracking all compensation invoices
  • Complete third-party salary surveys required for annual salary planning purposes and analyze market survey data and make recommendations to address gaps identified

About You
  • Experience: 0-2 years in Compensation or 2-4 years of experience in other HR areas
  • Education: Undergraduate Degree
  • Certification: CCP or CHRP preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Collaboration : ability to work with immediate team
  • Organization Skills : follows direction/guidance from Sr. analysts to manage individual time and workload.
  • Analytical Skills : ability to understand basic problems, facts, figures to propose action plans and present data in an effective way
  • Communication Skills : Able to write and speak clearly, communicating basic topics with team, local HR/employees.
  • Attention to Detail : ensures data accuracy while entering data in spreadsheets, systems, tools, or preparing reports
  • Systems : Understands HRIS system configuration for one to two locations/areas
  • Microsoft Office: Basic Excel skills (compiling data, adding and subtracting values, etc.), PowerPoint, Word
